Wade: Do people switch viber on and off? I leave it running in the background along with skype, data usage is minimal likewise battery drain

I find it doesn't come on with my phone and I might not notice for days. Probably because it is on my SD card.

Think of Viber as a "substitute" for your real phone. When you call/text someone, you're not sure if they are currently available or not. Right? ;)

Except that a normal text is received any time the recipient's phone is on, you don't have to turn any 3rd party software on to receive it so it is safe enough to send normal SMS messages anytime.
Whereas if I send a Viber SMS, the recipient might not turn Viber on for a day or more.

If I knew they were online I would Viber text them but if I knew they weren't online, I would just SMS them normally so I know they will receive it.

On that note, I sent 2 SMSs through Viber to a non-Viber numbers and it sent each one twice. Does Viber send a message through each SMS client you have on the phone? I have GoSMS and also the stock app.

Well, Viber SMS is free, and regular, cellular SMS isn't. So that's the difference ;)
And yes, of course "theoretically" it could be a whole day before your destination receives the Viber-text, but in today's 3G+WiFi world, this is very unlikely. Also, Viber relies on C2DM (Android) or Push Notifications (iPhone) in order to receive texts/calls even when it is turned off (but still connected to the internet, of course). In fact, you could compare Viber's no-internet scenario to a cellular no-reception scenario. How is that different?

And on top of all that, Viber also gives you an indication on whether or not the other sides received the message or not (I explained above). Worst comes to worst - you send a *free* Viber text and the other side is coincidentally offline, you'll know it straight away, and be able to text them normally.

I would occassionally if the 'Exit' function worked consistently on my phone.

Before bed, I like to stream music/video to my phone and I need wifi enabled to do so. Flight mode signs Viber out, but as soon as wifi is enabled, Viber starts again. I don't want calls or txt interrupting my music when I'm trying to unwind, so I'd definitely like the option of being able to set rules for when the service can start or stop etc.

@fahrenheit - putting your phone on Airplane Mode at night is quite rare behavior from the "average" cellphone user ;)

Also, note that Viber shouldn't start automatically after you connect to WiFi. It's C2DM that triggers Viber to open up when it's shut off (that's a Google service, and if you want it to be disabled, please contact Android's support).

At any rate - we'll look into your suggestion, but no promises on implementation yet...

I do like having my phone off during the hours I sleep, otherwise it would be dinging and lighting up the room all night long with notifications. I don't know how others cope...

Haha I'm the same, I use Tasker to disable 3G and Wifi overnight and turn the sound off so I don't get disturbed.

When I use the inbuilt dialer to call I always get the choose screen between Dialer and Viber. I have selected Dialer as default but the choice still comes up, how can I stop Viber coming up as a choice?

Sorry for the delayed response.

When you select Dilar (or Viber, for that matter), you can check a little checkbox that's located underneath the Dilar/Viber options. Once that's checked, you won't be asked about this again.

Sadly not so. I have done that, but when I use the dialer I get a second choice that doesn't have the default option. Using a samsung sgs2.

Hmm... this sounds like a Galaxy S2 bug.
You might want to contact the developers of your Android and find out what's the cause to this problem.

Meanwhile - if you could add screenshots explaining step-by-step what you did (and what goes wrong), it would be very helpful to assure that the problem is not Viber's.

Generally speaking, anything that should be running in the background "all the time", shouldn't be on the SD Card or they'll have issues. I've still got over 1.5GB of internal storage on my SGS2 so it's a complete non-issue, I know some earlier models have seriously restrictive storage though (my old HTC Hero was a bit painful).
