It's exactly what I'm doing. It's the only video I've found where someone else has the Samsung logo flash on and off, and on again. Except in the video his only does it twice before getting to the recovery mode. Mine just keeps flashing on and off.

My phone is from Australia, it's an Optus one. There's no way they can stop you from getting to a recovery screen is there?

I'm sure I've exhausted all possibly sequences of pressing the 3 buttons. Maybe it needs a mans touch :P

Has anyone used the ROM Manager to get to recovery mode? I found a video on YouTube that provided 3 different methods. The ROM Manger required you to select to over clock it before you selected to boot to recovery mode. The ROM Manager seemed to be the next simplest method to get to recovery mode. Though I'd like to believe I'm just missing something since the 3 button method ought to work.

Anyone in Christchurch want to show me what I'm missing? I apologise if I've just overstepped some unwritten boundary by asking that question.

Samsung canada have acknoledged the issue and say they will be releasing a fix for it (not sure when) also heard another rumor that the froyo update may fix it...

Thank you to those who provided information and links to XDA and Whirlpool. Much appreciated.

One of those forums mentioned Samsung's Australian Facebook page. On there they acknowledge the problem and say they're working on resolving the problem.

I've decided I'll be patient and wait for Froyo rather than root my phone now. I really wanted to get rid of the Optus bloatware, but I've removed it from my homescreens so it's not really a hassle. I did want to fix the lag problem.

Sadly snowsteve, I take some comfort knowing I'm not alone. Is your phone an Optus one? I bought mine new off TradeMe and have written to the seller today providing details and links. I see he's selling more SGS phones and thought he should be made aware of the potential of those phones also being restricted from the R&D modes. I've also urged him to speak to Optus and see if they'll do anything about the phones he's got from them to sell. He did boast about his business relationship with Optus and Samsung so there's a slim chance he might be able to get some action, or information.

+1. I have had my GS for a couple of months and I am totally blown away by it compared to the Symbian S60 Nokia 5800 XpressMusic I had before it. Love this phone.

I'm not a superpoweruser and not really conscious of lag or GPS problems and a bit too chicken to try rooting around with things I don't fully understand - so I'm quite happy to wait for Froyo/2.2. Hopefully not too long a wait now.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

16GB phone was $800 + $80 for courier - turned up the day following despatch. Actually, I got his trader name mixed up with the latest phones listed by Stickyman. My trade was through rascallyman2005. He was a great seller. I'm sure he was unaware of the problem, and it's not his fault. Nevertheless, I thought I better mention it to him.

Oh, and I did question him over warranty before placing my bid. He had assured me that he'd be able to return the phone to Optus if there was a warranty problem. That's still an option. But given the cost of shipping and the inconvenience of being without my phone, I'll wait for Froyo and cross fingers a fix for the R&D will also be included.

I think if Froyo doesn't fix the lag issue I will root it. Especially for GPS, which was one of the main reasons I wanted the phone. I'm just looking forward to iTunes free PC, with all it's crappy updates and software offerings that I don't need. lol

I gotta say the Kies software is more sh1tty than itunes.

However the good thing about Galaxy S / Android is it can be recognised as an USB Mp3 player by most mp3 software, eg. You can use WMP to add songs to the phone, whereas iphone doesn't support this without hacking.

What we really need is 'Tomtom For Android' which I understand is in the works.

Hi Guys,

Had my Droid Samsung Galaxy S for 3 days now.. absolutely loving it..

I do miss the Ease of Mobile Me Integration... but Im sick to death of SJ & Apple...

My Firmware etc seems to be I9000SRJH1.. is this a recent one..

My Phone is brand new from Vodafone in Auckland... soooo? yeah..

Kies (poor spelling on the koreans behalf :P ) is a lil bit clunky.. but it works.. so ill give it that much

Ugh, that is like the third or fourth summary for the Galaxy S where they say "8GB memory expandable to 32GB." When it should be 40GB.

Its in the Vodafone subcatagory and not the XT one.
