Yes I found those tips, knew there had to be a better way to edit text. Using finger to try and move the cursor was soo painful

+1  I didn't know about that tip.  I couldn't understand why they wouldn't have some navigation function.  I'm very pleased to have learnt navigation does indeed exist.

My Samsung Captivate (XT compatible) arrived via Mobicity today.... wow that screen really IS impressive.

Popped my XT sim from my TytnII into the Sammy and away it went, very happy with the experience so far. Web browsing (Newtown, WN) is pretty snappy.

Pity about all the ATT crapware... but that'll be a cleanup job for later.

I had an Acer Liquid and it is a generally awesome phone....but I also owned an HTC Magic...and could see clearly how useful a trackball / optical sensor would be for fine cursor adjustments.

I've been looking at the Galaxy S pretty hard as it is an awesome phone.....but I use the trackball on my Nexus One too much...and I;ve already used a phone without one.....so adding that all up: my phones need a trackball (or something other than my fat finger) to make text work more efficient.

Selecting text for cut / paste is much more difficult without a track ball. With one...It's easy.

+1 Looking at the Whirlpool forum and Samsung Australia Facebook page, it seems as if everyone is back to denying they know about the problem, and saying it's not a function of the phone.

One of the people on Facebook had the PDF file from Google that states all Android phones must be able to get to an Updatable Software state (section 12, page 25):
http://static.googleusercontent.com/external_content/untrusted_dlcp/source.android.com/en//compatibility/android-2.1-cdd.pdf

ranton, where did you purchase your phone from? Just trying to figure out if it's only Optus phones, or if perhaps we've had them introduced into the NZ market too.

Purchased New Zealand New From Digital Mobile.. in Auckland

I am on to my 2nd Galaxy because of this (that said i love the phone to bits..) i have been leavign it permanently in debugging mode in the case i do need to access the Boot Menu...

my first one locked me out on the 3rd day due to the swipe code been attempted 20 times.. (not by me)

and the joke of the Swipe code reset wouldnt accept my Gmail Credentials.. no matter what method attempted..

took it back to the shop the store owner who knows me well kindly swapped it.. and sent the original away..

What kind of phone that has a Higher Level OS booted via Rom.. doesnt have some means of getting to recovery mode weather it be Button combo or "pandora battery"

Its like selling Windows without Control Alt Delete Functionality...

Any who other than the Neutering.. i love this phone would never go back to apple.. even if their mobile me Syncing is still far superior...

These are the Specs for my Phone FYI

Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 - BASEBAND:I9000SRJH1 | BUILD:ECLAIR.SRJH1 | Firmware 2.1-update1

There is no Vodafone Branding of sorts.. only the Gmail/Samsung Factory Bloat Ware thats included..

For kies the following things got it working for me (Win7 64bit)

Download & Install kies from samsung.
Make sure kies software is upgraded, install any upgrades.
Connect the phone is mass storage mode, and check it connects.
Then disconnect phone.
Then go into device manager and remove all the samsung related drivers
Restart computer
Put phone into kies mode
Run homeswitcher and switch to TW Launcher
(Kies can't connect with ADW or launcher pro running)
Connect phone to usb (in kies mode)
Let windows automatically install drivers
See if kies connects, if not reboot computer and it should connect after rebooting

There is simple fix to the lack of 3 button download recovery mode on XDA forums. Also if the phone dies (eg. locked) and you can't get into recovery mode, you can use the PC to force it into recovery mode.

Thanks for that info. Do you know which thread the solutions are on, or are you able to detail how you use the PC to force the phone into recovery mode? TIA
