Anybody on Spark with a P30 Pro notice that VoLTE is not active on their handset since the 10.1 update. VoLTE is turned on in the menu. Cheers Andrew

I think VoLTE is active but just doesn't show the icon anymore as I don't see the VoLTE icon, but my phone stays on 4G when making calls still.

Edit: VoLTE icon appears by the call timer once the call connects, no longer is in the status bar.

Ahhh yes you are correct. Thanks for that. Guess I would have discovered that in the end.

The call recording removal is annoying to me. Especially since it sounds like they're also preventing third party apps from recording calls https://consumer.huawei.com/en/community/details/EMUI-101-bug-on-Huawei-P30-%28-Call-recording-option-disabled-after-update%2C-Phone-app-crashing%29/topicId_117848/

The removal also seems poorly done. My phone settings still has the auto call recording in it, and it's enabled (as it was before update). Doesn't work of course, but more importantly if I touch it it semi crashes the phone (doesn't restart but seems to lose all networks). And their response in the forums is poor. AFAIK Huawei used to disable call recording in countries where it was legally problematic. I guess maintaining such a list may have been annoying, but they do have all their partners to work with. Anyway there's was no reason to disable it in countries like NZ where it's generally fine. And especially not in third party apps.

I don't know if it has something to do with the controversy they find themselves in, but if they think people are going to be convinced 'hey look we've designed our software so no one can record calls, so there's definitely no chance we will record your calls for the Chinese government', I think they don't understand how people think.

I've also found the new scrolling screenshot is mostly worse. I mean sure sometimes it's a lot faster, but it also fails a lot more often.

I'm not so sure you'll actually get a Huawei P30 from that Wish promotion. You may get a phone labelled P30 but whether it's a Huawei P30 is another matter altogether.

Additionally you can't reset them to function outside Chinese parameters, including language

Thanks for the reply 1024kb yes you are correct some are only labelled P30 but I have found one the seems to be authentic, I was going to take the punt mainly because (well in my experience ) wish have a good return policy.

Maybe 20% of what I have purchased from Wish I have bailed out of for one reason or another and its all been sorted in 2 days.

But in light of what jevvv has posted I will give it a miss

@MattEast what's new on it? I've installed 148 (model VOG-L29) just last week with August 2020 Security Patch but that was it. Anything else on 151?

Hey Mauricio, Nothing ground breaking, there are more options for the always on display, you can now change the style and download additional ones (this might have been available already, but first I’ve seen of it.

Includes some cross device functionality if you have a Huawei laptop (I don’t) and the July Android security patches are included.

Aside from, that, nothing else jumps out (always glad to get the updates!)

I've just checked and see I'm on 151.

Got a Huawei laptop as well and tried the Huawei share function which works well.

Still getting everything set up the way I want it.

Ive been having this discussion elsewhere with Pixel 4a owners, they are fiercely defending its camera saying its the best on the market (old imx363 sensor used in the 3a). They are saying it takes the most consistent photos (when in fact its the AI that selects the best one with burst no longer available to view all), they also state that sensor size is totally unimportant and regardless that the algorithm uses extreme HDR, then sharpens amonst other things and spits out a perfect picture. They are also saying that due to its end result manual mode and or RAW files are unimportant and only 0.01% of people would care about post processing, sensor size, raw files etc.

My argument is many people want a camera in a phone as close to the likes of an RX100 camera as possible and many people use it for their photography hobby, sensor size is important for this reason. Also it is for this reason the sensor market in mobile phones is rapidly developing. I also believe sensor size also equates to better printed photos at over 12".

I understand their perspective.

But with the P30 pro and many other phones being camera focussed, is their assessment of 0.01% of people buy a phone with the camera largely in mind?

Also some are stating the reason trump banned huawei was due to mobile devices sending back personal information to Ch. I disagree with this, my understanding is the "security" concern was over huawei 5g devices in the mobile inter-network?

Will Huawei get compliance to load playstore any time soon on the p30. p40 and future phones?
