I havn't tried the above method, but yes that is for phone that isn't locked for locked phone it sounds very complicated but it is possible... of course much easier to return to the shop :-P

There are also some alternative 3 button combos for different variants of the galaxy that some users have reported success with, some involve different buttons, different timings, or removing the battery and having usb pluged in. Also on XDA forums.

Slightly OT, but what does everything think of the HTC Desire HD just released? How do the specs stack up against the SGS?

Telstra AU are apparently introducing the Galaxy S on the 21st of Sept.
I thought it might be a good option for anyone wanting an 850MHz version, but then I read something about a AU$954 pricetag. To hell with that!

Pretty good overall.

CPU wise - its updated Snapdragon is now 45nm tech like the GS Hummingbird CPU with all the attendant battery savings

GPU - 41m triangles/sec (~double the performance of older gen Snapdragons) Vs 90m/sec for the GS

Internal memory - 1.5GB Vs the 8 or 16GB in the GS (of which 1.8GB is reserved for app installation), unknown how much of that space in the HD will be available for app installation, should be a good chunk though, no doubt they won't mess up the file system like Samsung have in the GS

RAM - 768MB in the HD (unknown how much free after OS and Sense), Vs 512MB in the GS (~300 free to the user, will be less than that in the HD but who knows how much less)

Media capabilities - in the HD: no divx/xvid etc (Rockplayer app can take up some of this slack), no TV Out via cable, more limited audio codec support too, most likely inferior SQ (unknown, but the GS has essentially perfect audio, only matched by the iPhone 4 which has to all intents and purposes the same DSP), bigger screen but worse display characteristics, likely a fairly clear win to the GS in this area

Camera - 8mp with Dual Flash and 720P video on the HD, but to be honest I expect that it'll be worse than the GS 5mp cam with 720P and no flash despite that

Screen - 4.3 inch SLCD Vs 4 inch Super AMOLED, the AMOLED will have better power saving (I know that Sony are claiming SLCD is more power conserving, but in real world tests they are doing worse than first gen AMOLED), and better display characteristics for viewing angles, sunlight legibility, and blacks/contrast, it'll probably also have better touch response, the SLCD has the advantage of not using pentile subpixel matrix, so it'll be clearer (particularly for viewing text), it'll probably have more accurate colour reproduction too (although many prefer the super-saturated AMOLED look, I know I do)

UI - Sense is far better than TouchWiz, although the GS with LauncherPro Plus is just fine in reality, still would have to give it to the HD here

Speed of general operation - the HD quite easily I expect if you're looking at stock experience, probably still slightly better even compared to lagfixed GS I expect

They're pretty close all told, will be interesting to see how the media aspects stack up on the HD, since for me thats the key area of possible weakness Vs the GS.

Sh1t this phone is buggy, yesterday it connects as mass storage device, today it doesn't. I really hope they fix this cr@p with 2.2 update.

Froyo and the Mimocon Lag Fix will be ultimate.. (that is if the mimcon fix is needed with the Froyo Update...

The voodoo lag fix is the best as it replaces rfs with ext4

Yes, Flash is OK in this build. The TVNZ site still crashes the browser though (TV3 is OK).

The main annoyance in this build is the memory management, there is not much available and it keeps unloading Launcher Pro because of it, so it sometimes has to reload all the icons etc. which is slow. Apart from that it's quite usable.

Hi there all, I'm based in Melbourne now, just wondering if there would be any interest in buying my Galaxy.
I got it on contract around a month ago through Virgin over here. Would there be any issues with it taking a kiwi sim?

To be honest the phone is great, but believe it or not, it's a tiny bit too big. I think 3.5-3.7" is the sweet spot and I'm looking into a Nexus One!

Forgive me for posting here instead of Offers and Wanted, just thought I'd gauge interest and discuss any issues with transtasman phone stuff...

I saw a post somewhere in this epic thread where I can do something to my Galaxy that will allow me to store apps on SD card, instead of phone memory. Any tips?

Also, any tips as to how to transfer contacts from my old phone Sony Ericsson to the new Galaxy?
