Heard a rumor that Froyo would be available from the 23 of september ~ anyone know more ? Is this true ?

In case anyone else without the 3 button recovery mode wants to know. I ran the updated firmware that I provided a link for earlier today. It might only work for Aus phones. Optus and Virgin phones have confirmed success.
It worked! Then I grew a pair and rooted my phone (which was so damn easy!).
Unfortunately doing so (3BR fix or Rooting - both or one or the other) put me back to square one on my phone. Now re-installing 25+ apps and configuring it all again. Including APNs. Oh joy!

Now off to do the Voodoo lag fix.

Well I didn't quite get the stunning numbers others have reported.
When I ran the Quadrant test pre installing Voodoo I got 918, which was better than it had been a week ago. Possibly I haven't yet got all my apps installed, and there's some (Optus) that I will *not* be installing.

After the Voodoo lag fix the number is 1734.

I know a good number of you have reported numbers up in the 2000's. Not sure why I wouldn't get a similar number.

I know when it comes to upgrade to Froyo I'll need to uninstall the Voodoo lag fix first. It's not listed in the Uninstaller app I'm running. And I don't see instructions here.

How do you uninstall Voodoo? TIA

The one click lag fix is the one that gives numbers in the 2000's, that looks right for the Voodoo lagfix, which despite the smaller number is by far the better of the two (the OCLF is a benchmark 'cheat' - it does improve performance but the bench numbers aren't true, and furthermore it lags increasingly with increasing up time just as it does before the fix - the performance with Voodoo is actually better).

kiwijunglist: to uninstall voodoo you just create an empty file then when you reboot it automatically undoes the lagfix.

Can you clarify, when you say "create an empty file". Do you mean create an update.zip file which is empty, then put that file on the sd/ of the phone (internal sd). Then power off and do the 3BR. Or just power off and restart the phone? TIA

To archive the revert to RFS operation (uninstall), you need to complete 2 operations :
* Create a file or folder named "disable lagfix" in a directory named "Voodoo" in your internal SD card.
* Reboot

I also get about 1750 quadrant score, which means it is working. Quadrant score doesn't directly correlate with real life speed. I've read that the voodoo lag fix is the best one to use, even though the quadrant score is lower.

Neets What was the firmware and software your phone was running..

i want to do the 3 button fix..

but i cant find any information about the specific Firmware etc my phone has..

and samfirmware.com doesnt list it at all?

when I do *#1234#

i get the following

PDA: I9000SRJH1

PHONE: I9000SRJH1

CSC: I9000VNZJH2

This frustrates me... yet yesterday in a vodafone shop the phone on the display had the same numbers etc.. and went straight in to the download mode/ recovery mode...

mine will not...

Hi ranton, I spent about 4 hours on Saturday researching a variety of different ways you could find out details of your phone, and how you could update/change firmware.

The one I preferred was via the regedit. I'm not afraid to go "look" in there.
When I get home I'll reply with the details. I have it all saved on my home laptop, including screen captures. I'll post the details tonight. I know on an earlier page in this same forum I did state what my phone was running: DTJG4 (I think from memory) The baseband version was I9000DTJG3 (if the JG is correct) - I couldn't figure out why that would be a number different to the Build Number.

Now I'm on Baseband version I9000UGJH2, Kernel version 2.6.29 curio@carton #Voodoo_lagfix_3.0, Build number ECLAIR.UGJH2

WOOHOO THIS WORKED

AND IT INVOLVED NO DODGEY FLASHING

Phone now has Download mode and Recovery Mode AVAILABLE

VOL UP + HOME + PWR = Recovery
VOL DWN + HOME + PWR = Download (target disk mode)

Read this thread I downloaded the second Zipped up Archive available as i have the I9000 not the I9000M

Placed the Update.zip on the SD Card Root...

Downloaded Android SDK

Activated USB DEBUGGING Kicked Phone in to Recovery using adb

and ran the update .zip

in a matter of 15 secons my phone just had a reverse vasectomy..

Not the one I used. I used the method mentioned in the Whirlpool forum, or the same one posted on the Samsung Australia Facebook page:

1.Start Kies, Connect your phone with kies mode, and click :Upgrade Firmware.it will show something like : the device can't be upgraded....

2.than shutdown the upgrade window ( dont shut the kies windows!!!_)

4.Click the "Upgrade Firmware" again!!! Enjoy your new phone !!!
The file in step 3 overwrites the details stored in regedit. I went back there and confirmed. This (regedit) was also the method I used to confirm my current firmware.

One thing I read, make sure your phone has a min 60% battery life. Backup anything you want - my phone went right back to square one, like I'd just opened the box. There's an application to backup your APN numbers (APN backup - it's on the Market). There's a sticky post in the Android forum with all the APN numbers anyway, so you can grab those and manually enter it all over again.

Also, reboot your computer too. You don't want that having some little hissy fit while you're mid way through putting new firmware on your phone.

I've never updated firmware, so I didn't know what to expect. It took about 12-15 minutes I suppose - to go through all the stages (four I think - it's shown on the Kies screen). Naturally it takes over your phone and different screens pop up. But, really, just leave it to do it's thing and come back to it when you hear the usual boot up jingle. It really is simple.

Excellent! I notice that my phone which is an I9000 (and boots up with that on the screen) now tells me the model is a I900M, which also now flashes up when I power off/on.

I don't understand how you do that adb stuff so that method put me off.

bugger neets..

thats a little uinfortunate.. because there is a far lower risk level to that method posted..

the I9000M is a sub model in think for canada..

I think its allowed 850 mzh band and disabled the 900 mhz band.. so you can probably use it on Telecom XT now..

As much as I'd love for there to be a model that supports both 900 and 850MHz UMTS bands, there sadly isn't one.
