thats a little uinfortunate.. because there is a far lower risk level to that method posted..

the I9000M is a sub model in think for canada..

I think its allowed 850 mzh band and disabled the 900 mhz band.. so you can probably use it on Telecom XT now..

Someone else reported flashing back to the original firmware. It retained the 3BR and put them back to the stock Optus firmware. I presume this might change it back to the I9000 model - without the "M" at the end.

for me though I wanted to get rid of the Optus bloatware which is why I haven't flashed back to the original firmware. And I'm hoping that when Froyo comes out it'll all come out in the wash anyway - though I admit to a very poor understanding of what will happen.

I really don't know if it'll change the Build number from ECLAIR.UGJH2 to FROYO.UGJH2 or the whole lot will change, including the Baseband version - and possibly the Model number.

If anyone knows, let me know. Presuming it doesn't change the Baseband version, even if I went back to the original Optus firmware, I'd still be stuck with that with Froyo.

From what I've read, I can just update my registry with the original details I had (in 3 places - can't remember them for certain) and it'll put it back to the Optus firmware and retain the 3BR functionality.

I still can't get kies to see my phone, I have tried all methods off all the different forums. I want to upgrade to froyo when it is released, how else can I upgrade to froyo without kies.

Also I rooted the phone with oclf, can I just undo the lag fix and apply the voodoo fix, or do I have to undo it all.

On that same note, can I undo the lag fix and update the firmware using that root?

Hi all - this might help as much as it hinders, but for Kies to see my Galaxy S, I have to have it ask for the USB connection type (kies, mass storage etc) and be on the home screen in an unlocked status, then select Kies on the phone.... Doesn't connect otherwise.

You should be able to flash it using Odin, I don't bother with Kies at all.

It's not becuase you're running LauncherPro is it? I couldn't get Kies to recognise my phone until I switched back to TwLauncher.

My understanding is you can undo the lag fix in the OCLF file, then you'll be able to apply the Voodoo lag fix. You wont have to undo the root that you applied using the OCLF. But leave the app on your phone because when you do need to unroot your phone, you'll have the option to do so via that app (though there's bound to be other methods). I presume you'll have to put the update.zip that was extracted to the internal SD when you first ran the OCLF app. The Voodoo lag fix has it's own update.zip file.

I tried connecting up to kies when I first got the phone, before I had even heard of launcher pro. No such luck.

Okay, thats good news I guess. Will just make sure I keep the different update.zip on my pc somewhere

just to re-iterate what was said above, don't apply a new lag fix until you have reversed the older lagfix. However because froyo is so close, I would get ready to reverse your current lagfix when froyo arrives, then update to froyo, then re-evaluate the need for a lagfix.

I don't think anyone can truely answer that question because the official froyo is not out yet. I doubt rooting would be a problem, but I'm not sure. From my understanding you definitely should not update firmware before uninstalling a lagfix.

FWIW I didn't unroot mine when updating via Kies from JF3 to JM1. In fact I didn't undo the OCLF either, but that was a mistake that left me with a 1GB file to delete afterwards.

Don't know whether this is much of a big deal to many of you, but just had confirmation that bluetooth HID profile support is in the latest JPH Froyo firmware. Unfortunately still doesn't work with WiiMotes, but good for BT keyboard and Mouse, which should play nice with my TV-Out cable :) This brings the GS very close to being complete for me, with the only remaining gripe being the camera (which is adequate, but of course could be better), and the pentile submatrix used in the otherwise glorious S-AMOLED screen.

FWIW the other things that the 2.2 update fixes are LastFM compatibility in the inbuilt player, the music player crash on arranging by Artist (which I have, along with others, but appears sporadic), protected apps now show in the Market (like Angry Birds for example), audio output via headphones will be the same as line-out (this has been fixed for several firmwares now), GPS (mine has always been fine for me, but others have had problems), along with all the other Froyo related goodness... They have made inroads into the lag situation also, but alas are still using their flawed RFS filesystem. Once the ROM is officially released, and Samsung then releases their open source coding the Voodoo lagfix will be updated to work with 2.2, and then this handset will be close to perfect for the current generation hardware.

No, the whole OS is overwritten so the root changes all get wiped anyway. Rooting is (so far) a little more complicated in the next version because 2.2 doesn't accept unsigned update.zip files but it's still pretty easy.

Hi ranton, I'm looking at that thread and I assumed from your description there was 2 update.zip files. One for I9000 and one for I9000M.

Looking at the file GT-I9000_SBL_RCVDL_FIX_REDBEND.7z there's two applications to unzip the file, WinRar and Winzip.

I chose Winzip and there's only ONE update.zip file in there.

Curious which # post you were looking at that provides two update.zip files to choose from.

Can you also tell me what your Build number is. And can you check what your Model number is too. Both found in Settings | About Phone. TIA

I wanted to put the stock Optus firmware back on my phone after gaining the 3BR mode.

I've followed the instructions from XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596

In the steps, after connecting the phone via USB it says to wait for the drivers to be installed before clicking the START button in Odin.

My phone is sitting in the Download mode, it's connected to my computer, but I don't see any drivers installing.

Any suggestions?

How do I get out of Download mode?

I think the crappy camera performance makes it definitely far from perfect. If the camera was a lot better, then I would say it's very close to the perfect phone.

If the camera was fixed, battery life was improved by 50%-100% and they added xenon flash I would say it IS the perfect phone.
