I bought one of these wireless chargers.  Nothing fancy but it works fine.  About NZ$19 including shipping to NZ.  The LED was quite bright flashing at night so I unclipped the cover and taped the LED to reduce the brightness.

droopanu:

yellow15: then what about OTA update?
is it dependent on the service provider?
or the phone manufacturer
would a parallel imported phone have OTA?

The manufacturer pushes out the updates. The telco approves the updates before the manufacturer pushes them out.
If you got a overseas device the release of updates would be based on the country/telco that the phone is originally from. You would still get them

Actually that is not true for the Nexus devices, at least the ones bought from google play.
On a Google Play Nexus device, the update is pushed directly by Google, without any operator intervention.

Noticed that quite a lot of people are still ordering from AU Playstore so I guess just an update on my D.O.A issue from the AU Playstore. This will come in handy if anyone else runs into a faulty N5 purchased from an overseas Google Playstore. While Google might refuse to RMA to NZ due to their own overly restrictive policies, your credit card company likely disagrees with their stance. At my request my AU friend filed a credit card charge reversal with explanation of Google's stance. The charge was reversed successfully after 2 weeks.

Good to know.

How many days after the purchase did you file the reversal request? How did your friend explain the situation regarding oversea RMA, i.e. bought a phone for oversea friend, or moved to oversea?

Just received my Tylt Vu desktop charger to compliment my Nexus 5. Loved it. Worked perfectly in both landscape and portrait.

Selling the two extras I ordered in the forum: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=77&topicid=138031

Anyone know a local place in CHCH that sells the 32GB version?

My current phone is possibly busted and I am going to need a phone over the Christmas period.

Filed about a month after purchase date. Following were key points highlighted in reversal claim.

* Purchased as a gift for friend in NZ
* Cost of shipping back to Google for warranty purposes unreasonable AND Google refuses to RMA to NZ for any reason.
* Therefore all reasonable options exhausted with merchant.

I've seen various other people take Google to court to enforce warranty claims but it's not really worth the hassle. Luckily a credit card reversal is much simpler.

Frustrating issue to deal with, but on the bright side I got my $ back and I still have a D.O.A Nexus 5. If it doesn't cost too much to do an out of warranty repair, I guess that compensates me somewhat for the crap Google put me through :)

You will be hard pressed to find one locally, I tried Value basket (Hong Kong based) and while it said they had them in stock two weeks later I got an email saying they are currently out of stock so have asked for a refund hopfully not going to be a fiasco.

Only http://www.gadgetsonline.co.nz/shop says they have them in stock but I would call them first.

Using my Nexus 5 here on the gold coast it feels like i only have 1800 LTE and 2100 3G at times with the level of Optus signal i'm getting. Where on earth is the 900 3G (or even 2G is often absent too!)

I've encountered many a place from inside shopping centres to driving down the highways to next to golf courses that have nearly zero or very weak coverage. Its crazy to go from 4G to EDGE to nothing in the ground floor of the edge of a major shopping centre. Makes me feel spoilt in NZ. Also the 3G is insanely slow and unreliable too. Perhaps ill try Vodafone or Telstra next time.

One question i do have for people - is the 4G to 3G transition totally seamless for you guys? Just wondering if this is just Optus where im seeing a cut out of data between switching up or down.

Anybody noticing HTML issues in e-mail on the stock e-mail client?

For some reason e-mails from a few sites (XDA is one for me) have HTML links showing as text and not clickable. The other sites I have seen this is Snapchat (did a password reset and the link was text) and Geekzone!.  Have switched to K9 until this is fixed. As an aside K9 is a nice e-mail app so I am not really missing any functionality.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I would not normally bump a thread of my own, but I am surprised nobody else has commented on the lack of HTML support for emails from Geekzone on the N5. This is on the native client.

I can't believe it's mail provider related since HTML works fine on JB and all other clients I am using. If it's only my own phone (stock and locked) then maybe I can to factory reset it or something.

You will enjoy it! 3 weeks on and im still in awe with mine. Not entirely sure why, i came from a SG3 and iphones prior to that so im used to decent gear. Im putting it down to build quality and its just so amazingly fast, gone are the days of having to wait for the phone to respond.

Every now and then I stumble upon really useful apps, been beta testing this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benhirashima.skiplock

It's the same author as Unlock with Wifi but he rewrote the app from the ground up for Android 4.0+.

Essentially you can configure trusted wifi or bluetooth devices so that your phone is unlocked e.g. swipe to unlock or whatever. When you're away from said wifi or bluetooth device your phone locks e.g. pin to unlock

It only works with pin unlock unless you're rooted where you can use face unlock or pattern unlock

Not really related to the Nexus 5, but I'm using it on my Nexus 5 so whatever :D
