Neets: I wanted to put the stock Optus firmware back on my phone after gaining the 3BR mode.

I've followed the instructions from XDA:

In the steps, after connecting the phone via USB it says to wait for the drivers to be installed before clicking the START button in Odin.

My phone is sitting in the Download mode, it's connected to my computer, but I don't see any drivers installing.

Any suggestions?

If Windows doesn't show the driver progress dialog then it already had the drivers installed (or it did it very quickly!). If you want to check look in Device Manager when the phone is connected by USB in download mode, under "Modems" you should see "Samsung Mobile Modem".

When you start Odin you should see one of the boxes under ID:COM go yellow and contain e.g. "0:[COM19]", which is the COM port of the phone in download mode.

To get out of download mode just hold the power button in until it resets, or take out the battery (it's OK to do this if the download hasn't started).

Thanks for the reply. After googling a bit I realised that if it had connected to a COM in Odin that it was all good to go. Glad I wasn't wearing my Heart Rate Monitor, I think my heart rate increased double ;-)

Anyway, successfully back to the stock Optus f/w. Trying to connect my Gmail account which is a no go for some reason. Need to reinstall APN backup and then get on with rooting, voodoo and then restoring from Titanium Backup (after reinstalling that too!) Thanks :)

Lag: I was under the impression "lag" was the delay or response time when selecting to go (load) an application, or scrolling through a list.
Although Voodoo is running on my phone, I'm not noticing any improvement in the responsiveness of my phone when moving to a different home screen, or scrolling a list.

Have I mistaken what lag is? People have made comments that their phone is a different beast after installing the Voodoo lag fix, yet I'm not dectecting any difference at all.

While I'm here, I just wanted to say how impressed I was with Titanium Backup. What a breeze it is to flash a new firmware and get the phone back to the way it was prior. There were a handful of widgets that didn't correctly load on my home screens but everything was just as I'd had it when I took my backup.

I have another question about using Odin. I don't have it on my work machine so I'll go off memory. Odin was much quicker than using Kies. I can see why some people say they never use Kies.

There's several fields you can select your Pit, PDA (first two are essential), CSC, and a couple of others, Modem? Anyway, the firmware I downloaded (off a link provided in XDA) only had the one file (can't remember it's extension now). Do you use that file in each of the fields for PDA, CSC, Modem etc? Are the settings for those other fields contained in the same file?

They are for different parts of the operating system and sometimes you only need to flash one part. CSC is "country/carrier specific code", special customised bits for your locale, Modem is the low-level phone drivers, PDA is the rest of the OS. If you don't know where you should put the file don't guess, as it could mess things up a lot, though probably the worst that could happen is you'll have to reflash everything.

Crap. I saw this today: http://androidandme.com/2010/09/carriers/verizon/froyo-ota-update-expected-to-hit-the-droid-x-tomorrow/

Got my hopes up that it was true we'd see Froyo this week. Who/what to believe.

I think its allowed 850 mzh band and disabled the 900 mhz band.. so you can probably use it on Telecom XT now..

As much as I'd love for there to be a model that supports both 900 and 850MHz UMTS bands, there sadly isn't one.

Well According to Debug mode on my phone.. much to my suprise

both 850 and 900 are enabled.. will borrow a XT Sim to see if it works..

Being so new to this, does the update Samsung UK have only apply to phones in that region e.g those of you who bought from Clove or Unlocked Mobiles will have access to the update, or is it a generic update regardless of region?

Assuming it's based on region, for those of us with phones from a different region, would we just flash to a UK firmware, then do the upgrade to Froyo released by Samsung UK? TIA

The updates have a small amount of country/carrier specific code but they're usually pretty interchangeable. If you want to install it via Kies it will be offered to you if your current region matches an available upgrade, or you can tweak Kies to make one of the available upgrades show up (tweak methods will appear on xda I'm sure).

If you download it from e.g. samfirmware.com and install it via Odin it doesn't matter if your region doesn't match.

Hi guys, quick question to those that have bought a 16GB i9000 from mobicity. What UI does it come with? is it the standard Samsung UI or a particular carrier's UI? Also are all the preloaded apps already on the fone and working? just asking as I had a bad experience with a local importer and not looking 2 repeat any mistakes. Or is it less hassles to just get it from Voda although I'm not 2 keen on what they charging for just an 8GB.

Hi Fizz, when I was deciding who to purchase though, I looked hard at Mobicity. They aren't affiliated with any carrier and their phones as I understand come loaded with stock applications. There's been a number of people in this thread who have purchased through Mobicity, from memory none have reported any problems with their purchase (other than the fluctuation of exchange rate between the NZ and AUS $ and the currency conversion your Credit Card bank will charge).

I'm not sure what size most people get. I thought it was the 8MB. I've got a 16MB (purchased on TradeMe) and an 8MB external card. Most of my stuff is on the external card. Perhaps size wont matter ;-)
