What is the best way to update a ROM, if updating a ROM on your phone from one version to the next. e.g Revolution HD 3.5.1 to 3.5.2.

Is as simple as just loading the update, or do you have to backup your apps and restore them on the flipside?

Thanks.

That all depends upon the developer. They will always tell you what to do, when an update comes out. Sometimes they just issue an update, and other times it requires a full wipe and flash. With an update you won't lose your settings, but with a full wipe and flash, you will. The best thing to do is get into the practice of backing up your apps and data and system settings. Titanium Backup and My Backup are good. You have to be careful about which system settings you restore after a full flash. For me, it's usually just my Bluetooth and WIFI and email settings. ALWAYS backup your contacts. The easiest way is to just to do this Via Settings/Accounts & Sync. Usually, your Apps are automatically downloaded once you've completed the initial setup required when the first boot occurs after a new flash. You'll find that the backup apps (titanium etc) sometimes don't work properly, as in you get a lot of Force Close messages. Just uninstall the troublesome App and reinstall via the Android Market.

Oh yeah. Bear in mind, that the CWM (Clockwork Mod) will not necessarily restore your ROM backup perfectly. For me, I always lose the Notification bar. So, don't rely on it. Use Titanium and My Backup. I prefer My Backup. Titanium is more advanced, but the free version can be a pain, when it comes to restoring your backed up Apps, but it works. MY Backup has a much simpler GUI and has a 30 day trial. I'll be buying it, when my trial expires.

It's always best to flash a new Rom on a full charge.

I am already a Titanium Backup Paid user. So I am sweet there.

It seems that small increments require nothing fancy, but a major releases should have a full wipe.

Hate being the noob.

BadCam: ALWAYS backup your contacts.

I always do my contacts on Gmail, so I don't have a problem there. Just make the adjustments and they trickle down to the phone.

Used a program called UiA - Backup Contacts v0.6.2 https://market.android.com/details?id=no.uia.android.backupcontacts a few weeks ago to backup my contacts to shift from my phone to my wife's Galaxy S via Gmail, that worked a treat.

Cheers.

A quick question about headphones/headsets...

As someone with a lengthy daily commute, I want to get a set of headphones that I can use with the Sensation. Not looking to spend a fortune, but something of reasonable quality that will let me listen to audio, pause and skip tracks forwards/back, and also with an in-line mic so I can also take calls.  At this point I'm looking at something like the Sennheiser 218i.

This particular set is designed to work with Apple iProducts, so I'm wondering if it will work with HTC products as well. There's a GZ thread here that says it will, but wondered if any HTC owners can confirm this before i spend? I read that these headphones didn't work with the Galaxy S because the plug was configured differently, but that they should work with the SII because Samsung has (slavishly ) changed their plug layout.

I sent a message to the Sennheiser NZ importer (no reply) and have asked in a couple of retail outlets (who wont open a box to check)...

Wearing earphones while your driving is quite dangerous, let alone illegal, is it not?

Unless your commute is cycling?

My commute is by train. About an hour each way...

So any info. on the 3.5mm plug configuration would be greatly appreciated.

From looking at specs, i see know reason why those headphones would have a issue when being used with the Sensation.

I was running P3 7.30 with Faux 0.17 kernel and my phone completely shat itself and my sdcard was heavily corrupted deleting all my photos and ebooks. my music survived though. Had to reflash and wait until tonight to try a different rom.

Holy carp!
When did that happen?
Any idea what the cause was? Symptoms? Boot-looping? Apps2sd or anything?

I think it was overheating and kept crashing and boot looping. i ended up only being able to boot successfully for about 30 seconds before it crashed. I think the constant crashing may have corrupted the sd card contents.
