HTC One M8 said to be coming in plastic variant:

I wonder if the HTC One's will come with vanilla Android like the previous M7 across all Telcos?

You mean the Google Play Editions? Highly unlikely given the GPE M8 variant uses US-specific hardware, and even if it didn't, it'd be an extra SKU + software build for local vendors to range, test, & support. :)

myndlyz: 20% of at Noel Leeming!

This just made my decision a whole lot easier. Unless something else comes up, now:
-I will get the phone from from NL
-Go on the $59 open term plan at Telecom (getting the free 500mb for the next 6 months, one free month and spotify); and
-when 2degrees gets 4G in Wellington, I'll switch to their $39 open term plan

As you can tell from my above posts, I plan to buy my phone from Noel Leeming and then use it on both the Telecom and 2degrees networks. Noel Leeming lists a separate phone for each network. Does it really matter which one I buy? I hear that Telecom does the most in terms of customising their phones (TWorld, My Telecom app etc) which I would like to avoid. But I would still like to use it on both networks. Thoughts?

The Telecom version of the M7 I got last year had no customisations. In fact, that was the case across the Telcos. Not sure if is staying this way with the M8.

Wow, that's very tempting. Z2 off the radar now, due to the delays. This phone, at that price, is now very much in focus.

Have placed a pre-order with Noel Leeming. Could not resist at that price.

I'm surprised at the interest in this thread. I thought the camera is rubbish. Afaik S5 is far superior than M8

Not trying to put a downer on the NL deal but I seem to remember a lot of unhappy people with NL with the product not arriving when it should of been here for some other handset roll outs. Just saying be careful is all :)

I seem to remember something similar as well. Handsets not being available on the release date also.

Kinda disagree with this. You can throw a blanket over most of the specs except for the the rear camera, and of course the front 'selfie' camera on the M8 is superior. And then there's Zoe and the low light performance of ultra-pixel.
Most of the head to head reviews I have watched or read show me a divergent stream for these two phones where the OEM skin and functionality may play a bigger part than pure specs. What you want from the phone should determine which you choose.
In the end the S5 will far outsell the M8, that is a fact of commercial reality when Samsung is the 300lb gorilla in the android sphere.
