My Huawei P9 updated about a week ago to Android 7.0

Phone purchased new from Noel Leeming about 3-4 months ago, not long after P10 was released.

Wife's P9 Lite hasn't updated.

I've got a Huawei P9 Lite. It's the first and last Huawei phone I'll ever buy. It's at Android security patch level 1 September 2016 (no updates released since I bought the phone), which is completely unacceptable.

The P9 Lite and P9 Plus will get the update just later, for there have been more (inconvenient) issues in the tests for the New Zealand version

Welcome to Geekzone - you sound like you know what you're talking about here! Do you know anything else about the roll-out for the standard P9, particularly timeframe?

I asked them about the latest bluetooth vulnerability and patch on twitter, to which they replied: "HuaweiNZ is committed to fixing the BlueBorne vulnerability in the next software maintenance release. It will be available for P9 Plus in Q4"

Here's hoping that means we get updated to at least that security patch level as well.

Did you try that? I've been tempted to try that, or even just going to stock Android, but I don't want to brick my phone.

I did custom firmware heaps with my S4, but it never quite worked as the stock one.

Sure did. All it's doing is bypassing the IMEI check using the proxy. It's downloading the firware from the Huawei servers and installing via the phone factory installer. No "hacking", no rooting. It's relatively safe but I'm not responsible if you brick ya phone. :)

Intersting, thanks. Your instructions there are a little hard to follow if you haven't done all the research.

"download the firmware finder"... where? On your phone? On your PC?

"enable install by proxy" - where?

etc.

Any chance you can make it relatively idiot proof?

Sorry no such thing as idiot proof and there are so many veriations to consider. Some processes seem to work for one person and not another. To be fair if you don't know what your doing I wouldn't do it. You need to do a little bit of research first.

Heres a start: MT Team have a tool called firmware finder. It can be found in the Play store. It searches Huawei servers for firmware. All you need to do is research how to use that if all you want to to do is update an NZ phone to Android 7.

Keep in mind I've done a lot to this phone in the past and maybe something is unlocked and that's why it worked. Ive had the bootloader unlocked (then locked again) and installed a Eurpean version of the OS however I restored it all back to NZ OS. Details of that can be found on XDA too.
