CrashAndBurn:

I don't use Samba and Sony Select as it just creates clutter for me. I also turned off sending data to Sony for "future performance". Basically anything that sends reports/data to anywhere like Google apps I have disabled.

Dev mode - Go to About then Build then click OK 7 times or until it pops up saying that you will now enable dev mode.

The animations are set to 1x by default but found out that reducing this to .5x addresses the lag when increasing/decreasing the volume. You can set this to off completely if you prefer but a little bit of animation wont hurt :P

Thanks for this, wasn't aware of the Samba thing, yuck.

I use a receiver for all audio from the TV, and tie it all together with a harmony remote.  Seems the likes of the volume animation is actually an app?!, so can see some users having to wait a long time for this to appear.  Will look at the animation lag settings, that's a good one.

Football mode is removed 😂

Geektastic: Ours is a KD-55X8500D.

I can't even see the button to force the update check any more. I'm sure there used to be one!

Edit. Found it. Now hidden under help menu. Says software up to date. Version 7
The update is only available for download to USB from the Sony support page  . The OTA update is not available yet maybe a couple of weeks away .

Unfortunately, the 55X8500D isn't on the list of models getting the update at the moment. I've got this one too.

That's a bummer. It's not a very old unit and was not bottom of the pack, by any means.

Forgot to mention that I also set max background processes to 4 under dev mode. Not sure how the system decides which one to stop once it reaches the limit but can see the improvement when switching between apps. Would be good if there is a way to see if memory is being maxed out. Cant find any info as to how much RAM my current one has.

Football mode lols :p

I agree.  I have the same model too.  Waiting for the update.

55X8500C here, looks like we've hit the end of the update road too.

My X7000D thinks it is up to date. Will manually update it tomorrow if it still thinks it is OK.

Mine too/neither. OTA style update obviously not released for this model yet.

I do not recall when we bought ours, but2 or 3 years seems about right. It does not seem unreasonable - technical reasons excepted - to expect updates for longer than that on a product most people would keep 5-10 years.

Does anyone know what the E, C, D etc at the end of the otherwise identical model numbers denote?

my KD-55X8500D  is currently downloading the update... taking forever and im on fibre.

Very weird, that it didnt seem to start straight away, I had to go into the software update the 'old way' (not the way they are telling us how to by using the help button) and that had a list of check boxes (as opposed to the single check box using the new way).

hmmm

I'm not currently planning on updating my A1 because I fall in the if it ain't broke and dont fix it school unless there is a very compelling reason.

TV works fine now and any stuff up will be extremely annoying as I will have to get the tv off the wall transport it to the NH who wont have any knowledge about anything and I will loose my tv for weeks (months) at a minimum.

The family consequences of that would be dramatic...

I would like the new update and that, I think, is the only thing that would put me off, which is strange as I don't change dns settings on the TV anyway. Thats what the FireTV and Shield is for. Was wondering if that thing they said about removing the option for using ipv6 might be connected ?

As an aside, use an old Fire TV and thought I'd update to a 4K stick - the old one only required blocking Google, the new one requires a whole list of blocks/redirects/whatever they're called. Have gone back to the old model for now.
