Brad,

Ended up holding the power and vol down buttons for well over 30 seconds well it seem like it anyway and ended up with a screen with a several droids at the bottom and instructions at the top in small writing I scrolled down to the reboot option with the vol button and selected that using the power button and it came back to life.

Zub,

I couldn't get to the setting menu, the phone was totally dead

I hope this isn't a regular occurrence, having a phone that quietly dies on you isn't much use even if yhou can bring it back to life.  Battery was still 65% so it wasn't a flat battery.

Greaver: Brad is right in regards to Noels support, the guy I spoke to definitely sounded genuine but he could easily have been told that by someone higher up looking to push away the blame, or someone less informed.

The main issues at hand is that there is no information available, therefore any conclusion given by someone expected to know something means a lot more, again Telecom only had to make a statement and none of this would be relevant.

Going into Noels about 10am, will have them ring Brightstar while I am there and request an update, I am not so silly as to drop another $200 (2 phones) just to take my business from Telecom if there is a near date set in the morning, but if not I will gladly pay the extra on the spot and walk away with my phones.

Anyone know if you get a sim with Vodafone HTC Ones?

I picked up two sim cards from Telecom the other day in anticipation and the receipt has disappeared from my wallet so paying for two Vodafone sims on top will really hurt -_-

Also if I do indeed have to buy Vodafone sims are they $5 like Telecom and 2 Degrees or are they still like $30?

Do Noel Leeming Tauranga have the Vodafone version in stock?

This NL thing reminds me of the S3 last year and the release of the 32GB phone... you can have a look in the thread yourself, but the gist of it is NL knows sweet FA about anything and people that pre-ordered at easter were still waiting in june- july...

Technofreak:... and it came back to life.

Whew! I thought the non-removable battery was going to haunt us. Good to know that something works.

Thanks for undertaking an impromptu emergency phone triage test and giving feedback to the community on the outcome. :D
Probably perfect timing considering that you are doing a write up, to allay any fears about the sealed battery. Honestly, it was my biggest concern for this phone ;).

As long as it never ever happens again... lol

The non removable battery has never been a concern t for me, I've had two phones, three if you count my wife's one, with non removable batteries and there's been no issues.

Every time I look at the phone it reminds me of a MacBook Pro. The screen and speakers are very 15" macbook pro.

Ah I see. Haha well they had 4 on order there as of the weekend. Two are yours and two are mine (well technically for my brother and his friend).

If only they matched the Voda price with Telecom, I'd be pursuing that, but sadly my brother will have to wait. I keep on getting constant pressure from him everyday to go in and sort things out haha.

jaffanz:

Kia ora.
Thought i'd throw you an answer or two mate.
yea don't load up the transfer then wonder why it spits at ya =)
its like any of the mobile OS choices really its in the Apps ;)
For a good battery widget in the top line of ya phone and elsewhere install "Battery Widget Reborn"
Notification pull down modifications require either a new Launcher which you install like an app but will overlay/replace Sense 5 (what you see in styling with the phone), or root and load a new rom with your type of function.
Crop wallpaper i'm pretty sure. unless there is an app for that lol. sorry not sure about that one.
Grab your Vodafone rep and while holding them steady Ask them to explain why no 4G!  lol

iPhone to Android is a jump, had 3 early iPhone models before my first Android, so I can understand. Don't forget to embrace that you can have tonnes more information arrive at you, in volumes greater than one, and thats cool.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for your response mate. Yeah I have heard of custom launchers like the Go Launcher, will probably get more used to what I have now.
Managed to suss the 4G issue, apparently it doesn't work indoors yet. Went up the road to Wendy's did lunch and managed to get one bar, but at least I know it's working.

Learning experience!

Greaver, when I went to Vodafone I told them I was planning on giving my old phone to my girlfriend, and they gave me a complimentary SIM card for her, and she is only on prepaid, so I'm sure they would if you signed a contract.

Ok to appease the non believers I have taken a photo of the agreement with my HTC One :P

Not sure if this offer is for any retailer - the guy said it was a JB deal only... you could always ask others to price match tho?

$949 Vodafone version HTC One. No bloatware, no fuss, lots in stock!

Oh that's a horror scenario glad it's all ok.

Would be good to know if any apps or launchers had been installed etc. Prior to this happening. Are you on the latest firmware as well?

Looks like we won't get the Telecom version before the weekend. It's still 'Coming Soon' on their website.

Sigh... while I've only ordered one phone and paid it in full, I would rather free up this money and use it somewhere else. I may cancel my NL order. Come Queen's Birthday - in under a month - there'll be another 20% off sale anyway. I know it seems an age away, but hey, it's not the end of the world.

Now that The Warehouse has it on their website, you can count that a discount off all mobiles won't be too far away. Every 3 or so weeks they discount them by 20%.

Plus, the 'gapagate' may be gone by then.
