This is the headline from the WSJ
Samsung to Permanently Discontinue Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone
I'm afraid that's the final nail in the coffin. Engadget has also confirmed the same.
It will be interesting to see if there will be an early release of a Note 8 alongside the S8 now.
From the Wall Street Journal (linking the article mentioned before): Samsung to permanently discontinue Note 7.

I'm thinking over my options too:
Really don't think getting the S7 or S7 Edge this late into their product cycle is the right option...
I was never going to spend the outrageous price for a Note 7, but I love my note 4.
Not sure yet whether I should grab a note 5 while they are still available or hope than at some stage in the future a premium phone with a stylus will cost less than $1000

Damn paywall. I think because I landed there from Google you get to see it free...

Yes - me too, unfortunately. The LG V20 looks fantastic but it's not clear if/when it will be released here - and I'm not prepared to buy a parallel imported one. Not interested in iPhone 7. S7 Edge would probably be okay but a bit meh after the N7.
Will be be interested to hear what you end up doing.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
Well i do feel sorry for all of you, there is nothing really around that could replace what the note had (unless you go old school with a note 4 or 5).
It also feels a bit more real when it happens to someone in NZ.
I notice on XDA some people are all like "nah i'm keeping mine because ........." they are also disabling updates to the device so they can't be locked to 60% charge.
But hope they know that any fire etc will not be covered by their insurance companies due to the recall.
It's just not worth the risk in keeping the phone when you family and house can burn down.
RIP N7. You burned brightly, and left us too soon.

Apple must be delighted....!!
Google will be just as delighted, Pixel anyone?
