NZtechfreak:
kiwitrc: I am rooting the wifes S3, but after following the AndroidNZ guide it is stuck after running Odin, hasnt rebooted and hasnt gone past recovery.img. I see others have had the same issue om AndroidNZ. Is it safe to remove it and try again? Been 10 minutes so far.

Exactly how far along did it get? Can you upload a screen shot of the Odin window for us?

Got as far as the text in Odin saying recovery.img and hangs there. Odin shows connected etc. I am at work now but will try again tonight. Phone is fine afterwards so I suspect its possibly good ole windows and USB port issues. Drivers seemed to load ok.

Remember to jump into Task Manager and kill any processes related to Kies too - there's usually a couple floating around.

The Fast Dormancy guide has now been updated as Gokhanmoral developed an app to replicate the functionality covered in the guide. Check it out here: http://www.androidnz.net/2012/06/at-your-own-risk-how-to-disable-fast.html

Found this awesome tip by user niknag on XDA to speed up your phone.

Go to : Settings > Developer Options. Set the Window animation scale and Transition animation scale to 0.5x.

Voila! Smoother animations/transitions.

Also can turn them off for quicker response.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I thought the animation was pretty smooth and fast already, I don't notice any difference between 1x and 0.5x (big difference when set to 10x though!)

Curly one.

Two S3's on same wireless network, when one gains an IP address, the other one can't obtain one? Says it is connected but no IP address available.

Sounds like DHCP is trying to assign them the same IP - what's the DHCP scope range set to?

Update on rooting the S3, tried again this morning but closed the Kies services that were running under task manager and boom it was done. So either it was that or possibly my laptop needed a reboot. Thanks for the suggestion NoFam

Yeah, that's pretty standard.  So it doesn't matter which one connects first? i.e if A connects, then B can't, and if B connects, then A cant?

And presumably they connect fine with a static IP?

Nope, it's first in first served. What I don't get is why their not just getting assigned the next IP in the list? so far it's only up to .4
