starcub: Received my phone and watch this morning. I love the phone.

It would be better if Sony put the "back, home and menu" buttons at the bottom of the screen rather than on the screen. They seems to waste some screen spaces.

How do you find the watch? Post some pics here?

Watch is a bit boring... Not very useful practically...

photos were taken by Z1...

s.joseph: My power button is a bit stuffed, its almost flush to the bezel and you have to push down crazy hard with the edge of your finger, i figured it was the design checked the display model and that was way easier, guy at telecom tested it, is gonna switch it out when they get more stock.

hmmm, mine is not easy to press compare to other phones I had. Thought was the design too. Will check the display when i get a chance...

What was 999/24 supposed to mean? 140 * 24 is what I would be calculating over two years compared to buying outright and a separate plan. I hate buying phones on contract anyway, I love the open monthly contract with Telecom.

If you have a telecom account then telecom will give you interest free finance on any phone purchase for up to two years.  You just buy the phone and charge it to your account.  On that basis picking up a Z1 from telecom today will cost you $24 per month over two years.

That interest free finance offer makes their "free phone if you sign a $140 a month plan" deal look very average.  You would be better just buying the phone outright on your telecom account and going on open plan or prepaid.

I went to the mall yesterday and fingered the z1.  If you press hard on the screen or flex the phone the display distorts.   This ruined what was a perfect phone for me and made me glad I didn't order it sight unseen.  DSE have the vodafone version of the Note 2 (with LTE) on special for $636 at the moment so I think I will pick one of those up in preference to the Z1.

I still want a waterproof phone but am willing to wait until Sony get their display tech sorted out.

Um, that happens with any phone... you're not supposed to press hard on the screen or try and bend your phone.

LOL, especially when it has a glass back and front.
I think landcruiserguy might be better off looking at http://catphones.com/

As someone thats owned a few samsungs (gave my S4 to the mrs last week), I don't think a sammy will "flex" any better.

Just tested this on my Z... Same problem too...

I do not realize that regular phone need to be pressed hard or bend!

Trust me, I have flexed both my galaxy s3 and my note 2 and neither show the slightest distortion of the screen. I think it's the difference in display technology rather than the strength of the phone. The z was worse than the z1.

But why do you flex them?
What's the point? They're not designed to flex.

If I flex my LCD TV, it'll probably distort, but I don't as it's not designed to do it.

edit: solved your problem... probably not waterproof tho. http://www.sammobile.com/2013/10/08/heres-a-picture-of-samsungs-curved-smartphone-with-flexible-display/

To see if the people complaining about it in the internet reviews are correct. It also happens when you do a long firm press on screen. I am not saying it's a big issue but it ruined am otherwise perfect phone for me.

LMAO.. I work in an industrial environment, and have never "flexed" my screen... never needed to, because it's not a normal day-to-day issue.
I can also use my phone with 2 pairs of gloves and still haven't found the need to "firmly" press anything.
It's like putting your phone in a blender to make sure "will it blend" is entirely true. Do you do drop tests as well? Coz the internet says so?
People complaining on the net are looking for reasons to not like things. That's what the internet is for.
Your loss.

Guess what, the xperia Z could not survive my oven at 120 degree... This is totally unacceptable!!! Telecom better gave me a new phone under CGA!

In all serious-ness, why would you need to flex the screen? I just don't get! I took my Z to fishing, beach, running etc. Not once I have the need to flex the screen... Maybe I dont know how to hold or finger my phone properly....

Sony were nice enough to loan me a Z1 for a wee bit, so gave it a reasonably thorough reviewing here if anyone's curious. Spoilers: I liked it.

Punches rain in the face, don'tchaknow.

Surprising how useful the water resistance was, especially with the headphone jack exposed. Sony's mobile kit has come a long way since they first started tinkering with Android, and their UI keeps getting better. If memory serves, they're the OEM that adds the most code to AOSP, which is rather interesting given their AOSP ROMs for the Xperia S & friends - wonder if a Google Play Edition is imminent? Or, dare we dream, a Sony-built Nexus?
That said, I find vanilla Android a bit dull these days, and they've gotten so much better with updates that I'd personally rather have the Sony skin.

Hi Guys,

Quick question regarding the Z1 and networks.

Will the new Z1 work on both Telecom and vodafone?

Also will it work in the US, UK and Europe? (travelling there next year)

Also will the above answers differ between 2g 3g and 4g?

Thanks
