motorwayne: What do people love about the note series over and above the standard S series?

once you have the big screen, you can't ever go back. Swyping with the stylus is a god send.

Definitely the screen size. It's easier to text and email from. I use it for business and am not that techy but would not go down in size again. i had a S3 prior so the battery life is better, so is the camera, it's been awhile sinc ei used the S3 so probbly completely forgetting the obvious benefits :)

It is absolutely the software and the pen as well as the larger display and battery in my book. I love the S Pen and miss it when I use other devices. Incredibly handy for jotting down notes and doodling, and a genuine pleasure to navigate the web with. I do have stylus nostalgia from my Pocket PC days.

The multitasking and handwriting recognition are very welcome too. The Note series is essentially Galaxy S Plus, in that almost every feature from that year's Galaxy S device is added to a larger form factor with a corresponding larger battery, and usually brings a few additional hardware improvements (In this case, SoC upgrade, OIS, 2K screen, metal frame, Cat6 LTE), so those who enjoy the form factor are better off skipping the S cycle.

Did you not read ALL of what I said? Swyping (the keyboard Swype) using the STYLUS, is a godsend. Once you use that method for text input, everything else is archaic.

I did read ALL of it and "that bit" but, ignored it. I'm an old school keyboard loving thump thumper, so I love keyboards...throw back from my old Treo days..never got over it.

Yep. I could go bigger again (And have, if briefly).

Thinking an iPhone 6 Plus will feature in my future as the Note 4 is very nice but still hasn't fixed the same relatively minor and easily-sorted gripes from the past two Notes. That cat6 LTE does hold a lot of appeal, however.

I'm getting stir crazy waiting for the NZ release date..... my note 3 is playing up and needs to go for repairs.....iphone 6plus is out this week hmmmmm wait for the note4 or go the iphone6plus....

Not at all! I love the Note series, and I've held onto them longer than just about any other smartphones I've had (I have had a fair few). But after several years, little niggles become annoyances. :)

- C'mon, there is no excuse for a 4x4 app grid on a 5.7" screen. Yes, I could use another launcher, and I do, but I'd rather not have to for something so basic, especially now Apple has moved to 4x6. Plus, unlike most, I genuinely enjoy the Touchwiz launcher. LG uses 5x5, which I would prefer - the original Galaxy Note was 5x5 - but 4x6 is perfectly serviceable. 4x4 is not.

- Two clocks on the lockscreen. Big clock + status bar, despite there being code in AOSP to hide the status bar clock on the lockscreen. Redundant design. I do not really need to know the time twice! I've been able to fix this in the past thanks to the lockscreen widget system, as several third-party widgets hide the lockscreen clock when set in place, but Samsung removed the widget system in the S5 & Note 4.

- Static date on the calendar icon. Oh, Splanner - It is forever the 31st. Today Calendar + Nova Launcher fixes this, but again, it shouldn't have to (Insert a few gripes about icons here - I don't hate them like some seem to, they could just use a more muted colour palette & a redesign).

- The Note II featured a genius feature called Page Buddy, which automatically switched to a new page of the Touchwiz launcher when removing the stylus, inserting headphones, or roaming. These pages could be customised with whatever activity-specific widgets and shortcuts one so desired, and disappeared when reinserting the stylus/removing headphones/et cetera. This feature was removed as of the Note 3, & has not returned, much to my disappointment.

Not huge by any means, but enough to make me take a look at that new entrant in my preferred device class - I came to Android from Windows Mobile, so I'm not especially devoted to any one ecosystem, especially when Google makes it so easy to keep using its services.

That said, I'll play with a Note 4 for work anyway, because it's a hard life. ;)

Also Cat6 LTE is 300 Mbps down and 75 Mbps up thanks to carrier aggregation. That is very, very compelling when everything else on the market peaks at Cat4.

I have small hands so not exactly sure how the Note is going to look in my hands, let alone next to my ear.

Does anybody else have any experience with small hands + using the Note?
