There is an option in the security app that will allow you to exceed that limit.

moxpearl: it's saying 16.6.7.0

I don't mind Miui itself, however there are some things that are doing my head in.

- Will not let me download apps from the play store over a certain size; seems to be over 100mb or so.. it just fails to install with an error.
- Browser will randomly redirect to random Chinese spam sites, even on chrome.
- Keeps trying to install a couple of Chinese apps.

From my experience with Chinese phones, this will all be fixed via roms etc, however it is not the most pleasant of experiences at this stage.

Camera is good, REALLY good with things relatively close and close ups. I have not tried it for anything like landscapes, the camera is also extremely quick.
Battery is soso, I hope this can be optimized, full charge will last a day with moderate use.
GPS is the best I have used in a phone.
External speaker is pretty good.
Screen could be brighter

Are you running the official MIUI - if so, give MIUI android a go.  They take the sources and make it more global - take out more of the chinese stuff.

I can recall a setting that restricts downloads over a certain size - but that was more to restrict (save) your cell data.  Turning that off might help - id say it'll be hidden somewhere in security centre under data use.

With the miuiandroid roms, I've never had those redirects - it'd be worth giving this a go.

Yeah, this is the deal breaker for me.  Can the rom on this device be replaced and if so, does it address the bundled problems.  Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

When I keep the screen awake the entire time while the file download it sometimes works.. managed to install a 800mb file last night (still crashes play store at the end)

After doing a factory reset and changing my region to New Zealand it has got rid of all the chinese crap which is good though!

I actually ordered one of these from the same store you did on Aliexpress, was going to compare it with my Smart Ultra 6, but after reading your issues realised might not be such a good buy right now, so have just cancelled my order based on your experience. Just out of interest, I live close by in Palmy, how long did it take from when you ordered to when you received it? Just so I know if I order something else off them instead.

That is pretty good. Please let us know once you get the google play issue sorted, I would definitely get one if it wasn't for that problem.

Looks very much like the same specs as the Mi 4i that I have  aprt from a few changes like the UI version and running Lollipop 5.1.1  Not a too bad price though..
