How's everyone enjoying their V30s so far?

Received an OTA to version V10c on my V30+ today, brings the November patch.

Enjoying the V30+ a lot. I turned off some features like the floating bar which didn't suit me, and have encountered a bug or two. But overall it's a great phone.

The finger print reader is a real highlight: well positioned, fast and reliable. Added both index fingers so I can turn it on with either hand. Battery life is fine for my use, never finished a day under 30% yet.

It's great! Mostly. For some reason LG thought it would be funny to remove the Do Not Disturb for X hours feature, which I was really looking forward to. On my old Note 4, I relied on a flaky app for that functionality, and looks like even with my shiny new phone on newer android, I'm still relying on an app...

Excellent phone otherwise, though. If Oreo brings Treble, I'll be a happy camper :)

EDIT: I can't see that OTA, here. I'm on the October patch level, version V10c-AUS-XX. Is that normal?

Re: DND - if you're using it on demand, that's a little annoying. Otherwise there's a scheduling feature to automatically enable DND at set times or in sync with calendar appointments. Suppose you could use Google Assistant to easily set a calendar appointment for [x] time starting [now] to enable DND on demand.

Turns out my sample is the SEA variant rather than AUS, so I expect the November patch will hit the actual AU/NZ stock shortly!

Love my V30+!
Although has anyone else noticed on their V30+, some dirt or something under the the top and bottom edge of the glass?

Sorry for the poor photo, my camera at work has TERRIBLE macro.
I have a macro lens at home, so I can take another shot.

I think the glass starts below the antenna band (to the right of the pictured headphone jack).
It seems like the dirt  is under the glass or between the glass and the metal frame.
I've tried wiping the screen with the provided cloth, but I can't get to it.

So, today I woke up and my V30 is freaking out. Lots and lots of apps are crashing shortly after launch. I've had Youtube, Joey for Reddit, Sync for Reddit, Swiftkey, Google Play Services, and even the system UI crash. Some apps seem to keep stable after a few crashes, though.

Reboot did nothing. The crash happens inside the ART compiler, thus a native crash.

Not sure what to do about this. A repair will take ages and I don't think there is any stock for a replacement. Also haven't tried a factory reset, but even if that worked - if it happened once, why wouldn't it happen again? Not sure I could trust this phone...

That sounds very strange indeed. I've certainly had nothing like this on my demo unit, and have heard no reports of similar (or any, for that matter) issues. However, what you describe sounds like an issue caused by Google Play Services, which all of the other apps you've mentioned rely upon for cloud messaging, backup, APIs, or both. I very much doubt this is an issue with LG's software itself, rather than something broke at Google's end. I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling updates for Play Services as a first port of call, and factory resetting + backing up with LG's PC Suite as a second option.

I've done a factory reset and there was no change. Submitted an RMA.

Oh, and the problem got worse since I posted that. The phone spontaneously rebooted several times, and once it got stuck in the boot screen and had to be force shutdown. Even stable apps became unusable under the torrent of messages about background apps crashing. And then the apps which were working, like Firefox, stopped working.

It all looks like some dying storage to me.

Any chance you could shed some light on what my options are, @NikT?

How strange! Yeah RMA sounds the go. LG will sort it.

Over 2 weeks later, and PBTech has screwed me over. They're now sending it back unrepaired because the tech 'couldn't find the issue'. What a crock. I performed a factory reset and firmware upgrade before I sent it off, and confirmed the issue still happened after those. Now the 'tech' at pbtech has performed a firmware update (probably lying, I highly doubt there has been another update made available since I sent it in), and he said he can't find the issue.

This is making me want to never have anything to do with pbtech ever again. I just want my money back so I can purchase something else from a retailer who hasn't screwed me over.

It's very hard to settle a dispute with intermittent issues and things not in your face (eg screen is blank, for example).

Eg I had an iphone that can't pick wifi signal beyond 5m from the router. How to argue that it's faulty? Apple did all kinds of OTA diagnostics and said nothing wrong, it was out of warranty, etc etc.

Sorry to hear - I physically inspected this device myself while visiting the service department FWIW as was very curious. Loaded it with apps, ran a battery of benchmarks and usage-emulation testing, and wasn’t able to reproduce any of the described issues. I can push the service team to send it back to LG but straight up if there’s nothing that can be reproduced in testing it’s hard to say if they’ll be able to do anything either. I still suspect this was a rogue app update from Google’s end.

This issue is not intermittent. I just grabbed the box, turned the phone on, the setup wizard appeared, and then TWO APPS CRASHED. Including the setup wizard. The setup wizard does let me continue, and when I get to "set up as new", Google play services crashed. I had to select set up as new again.
