The previews/hands on of the V30 look promising. With a top of the line processor, larger screen to bezel ratio, OLED display and improved cameras, this seems to be a step up from the V20 and G6. It loses the replaceable battery and twin screen which I think are no great loss. I think LG are onto a winner here and it certainly appeals to me a lot more than the Note 8.

I only wish Sony would update their phone designs, which are starting to look a little dated now in comparison.

I was wondering when this thread was going to appear.

I like the look of it too, it is the best looking LG ever and would definitely be one to consider if I hadn't got S8+ already.

Another fragile glass-backed phone, but that's about the only negative I can see. In all other aspects, this looks like an outstanding phone. Physically, a little too big for me, but LG have really been stepping up their game of late which bodes well for the G7.

No second screen, no sale. Not sure how this is significantly different from 5 other phones being released this year.

The V20 was an awesome phone. One of my favourite ever. Why would you buy this over an S8+?

I can think of five reasons off the top of my head:

  • No Bixby - both button and software bloat
  • Quad DAC
  • Dual rear cameras
  • Fingerprint scanner is a useful position
  • It's smaller in hand

LG are onto a winner here.

Just have to see how the OLEDs are performing on mobile.

Also will be interesting to see their camera and battery reviews.

1) Dedicated button which I have redirected to Camera is awesome. There is some Bloatware on LG phones.

2) OK. I used by DAC on the V20 a few times, I used the button on my S8, 3 times TODAY.

3) Shrug could care less, note 8 has dual camera.

4) You have me there.

5) I like a bigger screen.

Agreed here. Upgrade the V20 to 7.1 and I'll be very happy.

Removable battery is Amazing, i carry a few on me for big days (i can often be roaming with heavy data, screen on consantly with gps..)

Dual screen is sad to see gone, Sure its weird, its quirky but it is also amazing for always on display!

Memo to LG. Shrink this phone down, keep everything else as is, call it the G7, and I'm in.

Absolutely love my V20 that I picked up on the cheap from Einfo last week - it's the only flagship-ish phone that meets my featureset needs without any massive compromises - I run dual sims, VF for work and Skinny for personal, so having simultaneous 3G on both sims was a must, the removable battery and SD card slot (that wasn't a hybrid sim2/SD slot) - throw in the dual cameras (that have been blowing me away) and the quad DAC (even my 32ohm UE Triple.fi 10's light up using this) and I'm just super stoked.

I guess it's just market demand that dictates IP68 vs removable batteries (Hey, the S5 managed it?!) but then I suppose I'm of the thinking that your nice new electronic toy doesn't belong anywhere near water anyway heh.

Keep the OS updates coming, and I'll be a pretty smug fella.

According to the GSM Arena Initial review, it is smaller than the V20

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v30-review-1657.php

The LG V30 measures 151.7 x 75.4 x 7.4mm which makes it smaller than the V20 in every direction: it's 8mm shorter, 2.7mm narrower, and 0.2mm thinner. It's not all that much larger than a G6 either, just 2.8mm taller and 3.5mm wider and actually half a mil thinner. On top of that, the V30 is practically a featherweight - its 158g are 5 less than a G6, despite packing a bigger display and the same battery capacity.

I think they are definitely onto a winner here but I doubt LG NZ will bring it in, meaning buying from overseas sources.

Don't think it's glass backed. Smaller than you think due to the 18:9 screen aspect.
