lofreq: my galaxy took AAAGES to die in the last 5-7%. it went for almost 2 hours before i got bored waiting and started streaming youtube videos, took an 8min video to shut it down.

after doing my battery cycle and remove/wait/replace of the battery each way, BatterySnap reports 2days flat of estimated battery life, from a full charge. id believe this now, i defnitely get over 32 hours from it with my kind of usage, and a solid 20+ hours with lots of downloads/market browsing on 3g/syncing/wifi browsing. but not with any video or music playing, which may be the difference for some people

currently i feel confident with the battery easily outlasting a full day before i get to a charger, so battling my next conundrum - how to keep SIM vs Phone vs facebook vs google contacts all in sync with latest profile photos and whatnot. its an absolute nightmare! duplicated records, out of sync lists, fields that arent populated or matching, concatenated fields... sigh. making me mental. ive import/exported deleted and relinked entries for what seems like forever... and still not really figured out a foolproof method.

the only saving grace is now, with froyo, the phone (touchwood so far) always is detected by Kies when plugged in - unlike Eclair's one in 20 chances...

What was the wait time with the battery out of the phone? I figure 30mins should do it but haven't any empirical evidence for that. Just 'feels' about right. Any advice?

The latest update to Kies appears to help with patchy phone recognition, according to various innertoobs comments. So it must be true. Laughing

Or not.

Cheers,
R2D2

Update: 2% battery charge and still receiving emails

And took a call at 1% indicated. This battery must be part vampire - it's refusing to die. Laughing

I now have GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi running, keeping the screen on as much as poss and making calls. It shouldn't be able to cope with that for much longer.

...and as I typed that, the close animation and music played and the SGS has finally gone bye-byes.

So battery out and we'll see what happens next.

Cheers,

yep i read that battery-out was for 60sec, i just waited around for like 5mins then put it back in, left phone off, charged to 100%, battery out again for another 5-10min, then back in and turn on. following the logic that you only want to 'discharge' the capacitors and circuits that might still be holding voltage and thus memory, from a physics standpoint this only takes seconds, so 60sec is more than enough, and 5mins is stupid. but hey its as much for your own mental ease as anything else right :)

i did more research on batterysnap and its writer spent quite some time on keeping battery drain to a minimum - while its logging in background it shouldnt use hardly anything. i was wrong about the 1min polling - it only does that when youre IN the dynamic graph staring at it, and when youre out of the app all that stops.

id love to hear if you installed it, and took the phone thru a few cycles and see how it responds!

I have got a Vodafone Samsung Galaxy S that's running:

JPE Baseband (Better powersaving than most others at the expense of mobile data performance)
Doc V9.0.1 Firmware
And the Hardcore Speedmod 500hz Kernal with BL enabled.

I can normally get a full days use out of this, that's with it fetching my email, tweets every 5mins, and txting. It's not too shabby.

So 30 minutes was a bit of overkill. Maybe I'm a bit OCD-ish? Laughing

When the SGS is back up, I'll have a squiz at BatterySnap. Means uninstalling the current battery meter but no biggie - it was free. Thanks for the update on your quest for info.

Cheers,

Michael Murfy can you post some stats from the battery information when you have nearly run it out?

Btw I tried the running it out thing but I went to bed when it hit 14% so i just turned it off and started charging it. then this morning i took the battery out for a minute or so before putting it back in and turning on.

Currently @ 91% after 3h48m
Display 85% 22m13s time on
Cell Standby 10%
Phone Idle 4%

This is with 3g disabled.

I also listened to music for around 40 minutes driving to work.

Not trying to put a mocker on it at all, but that sounds pretty good so far lokhor.

Interesting how much of a power hog the SAMOLED screen on the SGS. I'd heard that AMOLED was very power efficient. Apparently S-AMOLED is not.

Your battery performance so far is also looking very acceptable. 4 hours+ for only 5% drain would suggest 80 hours or so. Keep it going and let us know from time to time how it's tracking. But I think I want your battery!!! Laughing

The trick is with my Modem + Rom, there's no background apps really open (apart from Facebook / Twitter checking in the background) but my phone usually lasts from 7am to 11pm when it hits 15% left.

When I first got it, it was horrid, with the standard Samsung rom I would be lucky to get it to last until 6pm.

Then again, if I use the Camera then that drains the battery very quickly.

0_0 my phone would be at 50% after that much usage. Now I'm sure my battery is broken.

Another trick, theme your phone with a dark theme (Black Background etc) - helps heaps :)

I'm using a very dark theme and a black background. I'm pretty sure my battery or screen is faulty as it drains so much more rapidly than other people even with everything disabled. My extended battery still hasn't arrived.
