This thread is to discuss Android Battery Usage.

Please post how you use your phone, what model it is etc and any applications that run in the background.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S with Froyo BUJP8 Doc_Kalpik Rom and the K9 256hz Speedmod kernel. I am using the EXT4 lagfix for all partitions.

I am using JuiceDefender to turn on 3g/Wifi for 2 minutes every 30 minutes to conserve power, it also disables 3g/wifi and autosync from 12am-7am. I have autosync and background data transfer enabled at all times. I also have my brightness turned to 0% for 90% of the time, manually changing it when viewing outdoors. Tweetdeck is set to update once per hour, weather widget once per 8 hours and Friends widget (launcherpro) every hour.

Typically I charge overnight and take my phone off the charger at 7am. I usually read some RSS feeds/Twitter in the morning for maybe 10 minutes. I then listen to music/podcasts for 35 minutes driving to work. My typical usage during the day is light checking of twitter/facebook/sms/email throughout the day with ebook reading during all breaks. I then listen to music/podcasts for another 35 minutes on the drive home. Usually by the time I get home my battery is between 15-30% depending on whether I did any browsing on my phone.

Usually by the time my battery reaches 15% I have roughly 2.5 hours of screen on time. I have never had more than 3 hours of the screen being on before my battery dropped to 15%

I do have 2 spare batteries that are not of the same quality as the oem one, they usually only get 2 hours of screen on time. I charge my batteries using a wall charger a majority of the time.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S - International
Firmware: Android Froyo 2.2
ROM version: UK version, vanilla JPO/JPP/JPO, via hacked Kies - rooted and OCLF applied
Power saving measures:
Wifi disabled until needed when away from home, on continuously while at home
GPS off unless being used for navigation
Bluetooth off unless needed (very infrequently)
3G off unless absolutely required (when wifi is unavailable)
Screen brightness slider (settings) at 40%, Automatic Brightness ticked
Screen timeout set to 1 minute
Power saving mode ticked (settings)
Vibrate always on (settings)
Audio 'On' for all notifications
Audible selection audio 'On'
Haptic Feedback 'On'
Vibration intensity at 60%
35 running processes including the following 3rd party apps:
  Vlingo
  TW Launcher
  TTS Service
  Swype
  Social Hub
  Rom Manager
  NoLED
  Gmail
  Email
  Dual Clock
Daily Briefing (Hmmm... it doesn't do anything. Must can this)
  Calendar

Biggest battery users for me are GPS and video player.

Max duration is approximately 26 hours, but I'll be more specific with low battery notification in a later post as I haven't noted the 'Time since unplugged' when the battery was below 15%.

Cheers,
R2D2

How many hours is your screen on before you run out of battery?

It's never happened.

I didn't pay particular attention, but it was >4 hours. As noted above, I'll run the battery down on this charge and update at 15% and 10% if it'll let me. The voltage available at that point will be really low I'd think - ~2v? We shall see.

Autosync is ticked.

Impressive. Hard to imagine anything will beat 36 hours with all that comms stuff always on. Amazing really.

Learnt a trick, always keep wifi on (on the nexus anyway) 3g uses more power, also when i go out of town (out of main cities) i do the *#*#info#*#* select "phone" and change that to GSM auto.
But in the city i use the WCDMA perf setting

If I had Wifi at work I might get better battery. My reception is terrible at work due to the thick concrete walls. In some spots the best reception I get is 2 bars of HSDPA, a majority of the time it reverts to Edge.

Galaxy S owner. I have the APNDroid app to turn off any net activity and syncing is also turned off. With moderate use, 3-4 days. I don't have stats on how long the screen is on, because my phone is currently in repairs.

Cripes - stellar battery perfomance. That's more than I used to get from my E63 and I was really impressed with the Nokia's battery duration. Not that I did much in the way of internet and email on it mind you. Looking forward to comparing settings and stuff when you get it back.

Maybe he turned it off at night time haha. I guess if i left data fully disabled and barely used my phone it will last for a long long time. It's mainly that using it drains the battery rapidly.

Basically I only turned the net on when I wanted to use facebook or twitter. I used it quite a bit for radio and music listening at the gym. The phone also gets used for gaming, like angry birds etc, while I'm on the bike warming up at the gym for example.

I've been testing out having data disabled when not using it today. my battery is now at 68% after 8h31m with 1h55m of screen time from reading ebooks and texting mainly. I guess data makes the biggest different.

In the 17 hours since it was unplugged from the charger...

According to the Settings app, the biggest user of my phone's battery is in fact the screen. By miles. So I guess I look at it a lot.

Have a look at yours and compare...

Display = 76%
Wifi = 8%
Voice calls = 8%
Cell Standby = 5%
Idle = 2%

Everything else adds up to 1%...

Interesting.
