Shouldn't this thread be closed?

Why - people are still using it. Ignore it if it's of no interest to you.

Has anyone actually received the $100 'consolation credit' yet?

Can confirm, got mine from 2D as well. I also got a phone call from VF asking me to return my Note 7. I left them 6 months ago...

Same. Have contacted them twice about it. Keep saying that it could take 15 business days, which is already up. Expecting to have to chase it again.

They have also charged me a months notice fee for cancelling my open term phone plan. Which is ridiculous, seeing as I bought the Note 7 to use with this plan, and I had zero notice that I would have to return the defective device a second time and be left without a phone (did not take up that free J5). I would not be rushed into choosing a S7 or another unsuitable replacement straight away, as I still have a work phone as a means of communication that must use iOS. The defective device was sold through Spark, who then asked for it to be returned again, with no plans to replace it. Having to cancel the phone plan on short notice was not my intention, but without the phone, it is absolutely useless.

I had to call twice to confirm the cancellation and that no fees would be charged due to the circumstances with the Note 7. But a week after the first call, nothing was processed. Now a full months notice fee is charged and they outright cancelled my number. I've tried contacting them, and the original telco I got the number through. Both say they don't have it and I can't get it back.

Would suggest that anyone else dealing with the same thing, sends a formal complaint email to get it resolved. Speaking to someone often goes nowhere. After a few years now being signed up to these plans and buying phones through them, I have learnt my lesson and all future phones will be bought outright and use prepaid plans. It is well worth having that extra control and being free to move your money elsewhere. It is a shame that here in New Zealand, there is a lot of incentive to buy on a plan and prices for buying outright remain high. Back in Australia it was often easier to get a decent deal paying upfront.

Same question, got a full refund from Samsung NZ but no $100 'consolation credit' :/, they promised me to call back, one month is passed, no calls.

The explanation:

They are not killing the Note name (yay).

I am happy with their apology, whilst I found it pretty inconvenient, I felt their handling of it, the offer of compensation, the thoroughness of the explanation and the action it intends to take to ensure it never happens again, fall within or exceeds my expectation. I'll be placing my pre-order for a Note 8 as soon as I can.

The Note 8 will probably be the most tested and safe phone samsung have ever done, so I would have no problems buying it. I hope they keep the note 7 design (mostly) and double the storage and make it 6-8 GB of ram. That alone would be worth the cost of entry.

Personally, I'll be surprised if they make the specs that high. 64GB and an SD Card slot is all I need, Extra RAM might be nice, however, I'd rather have better processor, faster storage and better GPU or better battery longevity.

Oh god yes better battery longevity would be great.  I really wish there was not a race to the thinnest.  I would give up having a thinner phone for a phone the same size as last year but bigger battery :)

Agreed. I must admit, a little less weight might be nice, but again, better battery would be nicer. Having said all of that, if they do away with the hardware button, for me the only benefit of a Samsung Note after that is the S-Pen which I miss, but it's not a deal breaker, just a nice to have.

My LG V20 is an excellent phone, and unless the note was significantly better in some way, I may opt off the new phone every year train, and move to the "new phone every time I see compelling extra features".

The biggest PITA's with the V20 are the horrible hardware button location and difficulty taking screenshots with it because of the button placement.

Anyone think the phone will be under $1500? Didn't think so :-)

My Note 4 is going to have to last a long time.

Cheers - N
