Anyone think the phone will be under $1500? Didn't think so :-)

My Note 4 is going to have to last a long time.

Cheers - N

VF are holding a credit for me, so I'd get it free, apparently. If they try and wiggle out of it, there will be fireworks :)

Note 4 represent!

I'm hoping mine lasts till the next Note device comes out. At least you can easily and cheaply replace the battery.

Samsung may sell ReFurbished Samsung Note 7's.

I'd seriously consider buying one.

I'd definitely consider getting one, depends on when/if it is available in NZ and when the next Note comes out.

Yeah, it would depend on price. I'd expect them to sit in the $600-700 price range if I had to guess, and at that price, I'd replace all my staff phones with them.

I've read with a smaller battery, so battery life might suck.

Battery life wasn't that amazing on the bigger battery so you might be right. I'd be happy if I could get 12 hours from it, or 8 under moderate use. I am not much further from a charger than 8 hours generally.

There might be a few hiccups, such as the (AFAIK) still-in-force restrictions on flying with them. Samsung would need to get the FAA and airline restrictions lifted before you can confidently take them to the airport.

All told, since the Note 8 should be coming out shortly, I'd hope they would be even cheaper. They'd make some money off them, and introduce the Note line to a lot of users who normally wouldn't want a high-end smartphone at an artificially low price point. Make a market for themselves and still make a profit (if they've already taken the markdown for the recall, every dollar they get for a returned Note 8 is almost pure profit.

Hope there'll be some deals for former owners on the Note 8 :/ (Lopsided grin, they really were very fair in how they handled the recall).

Given the difference between the S8 and S7 seems fairly minimal I expect the Note 7 and 8 to be much the same, so if the Note 7 was re-released at a decent price point I would most definitely pick it up.

From a PR and marketing point of view they would be better served by letting this disaster fade into the mists of time. They should focus on the S8 and the future and not remind the public of their failure.

I guess some of us were less phased by it than others. Stuff happens. If we punished companies on the back of one major disaster, the landscape would look VERY different and less advanced than it does now.

Some of the largest technology companies in the world make these stuff ups on a seemingly daily basis.

I don't know that many people who were put off that badly.

The Note 7 conjures up negatives, it's always best to focus on positives and eliminate negatives. Memories of the Note 7 will place doubt in the minds of the consumer even if that doubt is unfounded. Compare it to say the auto industry GM reusing briefly the Viva name , imagine if Ford tried the Edsel again or the Brits try anything and everything from or associated with British Leyland. Better to cut loses and maximise efforts on the future.
