I guess some of us were less phased by it than others. Stuff happens. If we punished companies on the back of one major disaster, the landscape would look VERY different and less advanced than it does now.

Some of the largest technology companies in the world make these stuff ups on a seemingly daily basis.

I don't know that many people who were put off that badly.

The Note 7 conjures up negatives, it's always best to focus on positives and eliminate negatives. Memories of the Note 7 will place doubt in the minds of the consumer even if that doubt is unfounded. Compare it to say the auto industry GM reusing briefly the Viva name , imagine if Ford tried the Edsel again or the Brits try anything and everything from or associated with British Leyland. Better to cut loses and maximise efforts on the future.

Looks like the greenies has forced Samsungs hand in re-releasing this phone From the article in Stuff "The firm had been under pressure from environment rights group Greenpeace and others to come up with environmentally friendly ways to deal with the recovered Note 7s."

Mike: Completely and totally OT but I have to say how much I love those words from the Anzac service that you have put in your current signature. They are truly beautiful and well-crafted. We are currently overseas for an extended period and away for Anzac Day this week - reading those words just now brought a lump to my throat. Some essence of Kiwi-ness.

... Have you kept up with it at all? Battery went bomb because it was too big. They've put a new smaller battery in. Thus I am buying what is still the best phone (soon to be) available.

If you are opposed to Samsung selling them after fixing and testing them, are you suggesting they instead dump them into landfill? Even after they have stripped the relatively small amount of recyclable material?

You asked "Have you kept up with it at all?" and my reply is yes, I do keep up-to-date and because I know their track record on getting this problem fixed on the second wave gives me no confidence on the third wave.

Second wave they hadn't actually identified the problem. Now they have. Now they've added in new tests to ensure it doesn't happen again.
