I've tried every custom and stock on my s2. stock always wins in terms of battery life and stability. so my s4 is now stock ...

does anyone know if I flash the international ROM will I be able to do LTE on telecom and Vodafone here?

my phone has stock Aussie Telstra rom + telecom modem + root

Well I'm custom based on the International ROM, and using the associated modem that comes with it. LTE still shows in the network settings..

I'm in Hamilton, so only a few places with 4G here, but I'm sure there's no problems. I'll pop in my Voda sim and see what happens.

Cool, theres a few more custom 4.3 TW roms starting to show up. Going to give Omega V13 a run tonight to see how it goes. Will post back with how it all runs :)

Just a quick update, ended up going with Echo 5+ which comes with Ausdim kernel. Everything is super smooth.

The only thing(s) that aren't working are the sensors associated with s-health - pedometer is confirmed to not work, not sure about the barometer. These will be fixed when Sammy releases kernel sources for 4.3 (Ausdim kernel is compiled from the Google edition 4.3 sources).

Flashing process was (coming from 4.2 with the old knox free bootloader)
- flash XXUEMJ5 modem via Odin3 (to fix wifi/data/potential sound problems)
- flash Echo 5+ with full wipes via CWM (I used philz recovery)

There are a few sources of the MJ5 modem, I grabbed mine from Deemjays (not sure if the spelling is correct) modem thread in the general section of the i9505 area in the XDA forums. Some people are having problems with sound but I haven't read enough to know if there's conclusive evidence what's causing it. Others are also complaining about loss of network connection on screen off. I haven't faced either issue - so might be doing something right....?

I'm on 2deg so can't verify if LTE connectivity is working, HSDPA+ is rocketing along as well as it has previously.

If there's anything people want me to check/test, feel free to yell out.

[edit] the only thing is some of Wanam Xposed settings aren't working for me - in particular the secondary symbols on the keyboard - note these were working after initial flash, but disappeared after installing the Xposed framework [/edit]

Nice work!

I was previously Echoe 4 then went to 5 and then 5+ and all via no wipe, except for cache and dalvik cache wipes. Everything seems to be fine.

I listen to a lot of music on my phone every day and the sound is excellent. Also seen the feedback re the sound, but no problems here. Ausdim kernel adjustment is cool for boosting the sound, and also has a quick charge setting, so make it seem like my 1amp charger is charging as fast as my 2amp charger.

I did get a couple of random reboots though, so not sure what's happening there.

What are you guys getting out of these custom ROMs that makes it worthwhile not having some things working? Are you trying to solve a problem, or just messing around?

for me its just messing around and I generally don't flash new bases until they have settled down a but as usually some teething problems.

I flashed the Echoe 4.3 rom basically because I was bored but seemed ok and no issues, I saw Omega had 4.3 so flashed that last night but restored back as was having a couple of issues and I'm really not a great fan of Omega as it has a lot of flash and dash but has a good following.

Going to a new base I always do a full wipe and have recently started wiping internal SD as it seems to accumulate rubbish over time but I don't have any issues that way.

I'm not sure Wanams exposed settings are working with 4.3, I tried but it boot looped when I was updating files so didn't bother.

I see Samsung have released the 4.3 Kernel so we should see some updates shortly.

To be honest i don't really see much improvement over the 4.2.2 Roms but I suppose they have been around a while and fairly well honed to perfection.

Some things are, some thing aren't. The exchange security 'hack' is working for me (so I can use pattern unlock rather than password/pin) as well as disabling boot sound and 4 way reboot. The way I got it to work was:
- install xposed installer (apk) & wanam xposed (apk)
- install the framework & reboot
- check wanam xposed module within the xposed framework (if that makes sense) & reboot (I think)
- fiddle in wanam xposed (and reboot)

The biggest missing one is the secondary symbols on the keyboard - but TW 4.3 does come with a new keyboard so not surprised it's not working.

@timmmay - I get into a flashaholic state sometimes, the need for something new causes me to do things! In reality, the things that don't work aren't showstoppers so happy to try things. Ive been very pleased with myself for keeping to TW roms as all the 'AOSP' roms are all out there - google edition included!

Playing PVZ2 I have to reboot my phone to stop it sucking battery even if I exited the application. Why don't apps stop consuming resources when they close?

I have this one, it works quite well. Cost me about NZ$100 shipped, you can get it from amazon.com, .co.uk, ebay, or their website. You have to turn off the Wifi and 3G/4G radio when it's charging, otherwise it gets hot, which reduces the lifespan of the battery. It still gets warm while charging, maybe turning off all radios including the phone one would be better for it.

You wouldn't want to charge it by your bed overnight, it beeps when it hits 100% and stops charging, gets down to 99%, and starts charging again. There's a review on amazon that says how to disable the beep in the device itself, but the phone still beeps.

I tend to top up regularly when I'm near the charger. If the phone goes below say 50% I tend to plug it in rather than use wireless charging, because it's a bit faster and to stop the battery getting too warm during charging.

Mmm yeah so you can just use any case with that as it wouldnt make your back much thicker

If you were spending $100 why didnt you just buy the samsung wireless charging kit? The back alone is $59 and the whole kit is 100 and something

The Samsung charging back makes the phone thicker and prevents you using a protective case. With this one it fits inside the standard case and doesn't make the phone any thicker.
