Does anyone know if the Telecom upgrade to 4.3 is staggered? Mine doesn't find any upgrade if I do a manual check.

Is it normal for the top speaker (ie the metal long thin speaker grill) to be raised compared to the glass, with a small amount of flex around the speaker, it seemed a little odd that it wasn't nice and flush and that there was some give in the glass around it.

Mine seems almost flush with the glass. Can't say I've felt nor tried to feel any flex.

I have to say 4G is pretty insane but the data caps really do need to go up. It's hard to enjoy something that costs the earth in data.

Boring Friday night so flashed CM 4.4 Kitkat. There are about 3 4.4 Roms available so may try another one this weekend but initial reaction is that its very fast but then again there isn't much bloat.

Looking forward to the Google Edition roms to appear.

Looks like they managed to get everything working. Yeah most CM roms are fast, I was on PA 4.3.1 for 4 days loved it Smooth, good battery life etc

I was thinking of flashing it But I am going away on a holidays so don think I will take the risk.

Do the Google edition roms support ota updates? I have a telecom i9505 and was thinking of switching, but only if I have to flash once, I can't be bothered having to flash for any future updates.

no it won't unless genuine GE phone, after you have gone through rooting and flashing doing a newer rom is very easy, just need to only flash those updates that are a big improvement not just everything that comes along.

Actually I'm having no real issues with 4.4 apart from apps to Sd not working for a while. I'm not a huge fan of CM or AOSP but its running well.

Interested in this too. I'm not really bothered about 4.3, but 4.4 looks like it could have a significant performance impact when the old Dalvik VM is switched to the new option. I would rather stay on 4.2 rooted than go to 4.3/4.4 non-rooted though, I rely on root for a few useful things.

A quick google finds this article which search suggests you can root 4.3 no problems, same way as earlier, but IT WILL trip the Knox flag. Read about this here on XDA Developers. There's also this from ChainFire, who write SuperSU. Tripping the flag just means Knox won't work (corporate feature), but may also lead to warranty claims being turned down.

There seems to be a way to upgrade to 4.3 without Knox as mentioned here, but only if you haven't already updated to 4.3.

I guess the best option for S4 owners who want to keep root may be to either use the Google Edition ROMS (which personally I'm not super keen on as I hear they're not quite as compatible with the S4 hardware) or go to another firmware like Omega or Cyanogenmod. Personally I may just skip 4.3, unless I find a compelling reason to use it, then switch to either Omega or Google Edition for 4.4. A phone is a tool for me, not a toy, so I'll not be on the leading edge here.

Using a custom ROM based off a TW ROM can work pretty well. My phone is a work tool and I've just upgraded to echo rom v8. A dirty flash at that from v5 (mj5 based) to v8 (mj9) based.

I've got 2 exchange accounts plus all my personal stuff running without any issues. V8 is pretty awesome, or it might be the be the new Koontz kernel. Either way, if you're worried about Knox go the custom ROM route.

I'm pretty happy with 4.3 (vs 4.2.x tw ROMs). Much prefer the new keyboard + reading mode and things generally feel snappier.

I like timmmay rely on root (perhaps for different reasons) and having a warranty is pretty good! Highly recommend echo ROM as well as ktoonz.

I'm on 2deg so haven't tried 4g as yet. We're switching to telecom soon so will post feedback how a 2deg sourced i9505 works with custom software on the XT network (I can already select lte in network mode but it's not going to do anything so I haven't bothered! )
