Mine died today, 16GB white version. I'm about to write to Fairbuy.
Emiloser: Here goes my first post...
I guess that makes me the 3rd known customer from Fairbuy that had their S3 die suddenly. Mine died today, 16GB white version. I'm about to write to Fairbuy.

When did you buy it?? SDS is really something that has been sorted now unless you got a recon unit that hasn't been updated. Samsung released a fix in December last year so unless it was never updated it shouldn't be SDS, well not as we know it here.

I'm writing on behalf of my sister (it's her phone but I'm the designated 'it broke, fix it' in this house.)
It was purchased at the end of September, 2012.
I'm uncertain as to whether it was updated. Phone was completely stock, hadn't been mishandled or water damaged.
She recalls hearing a vibrate but ignoring it (she was doing something else) and then looking at it later on and it was dead.
She had charged it recently prior to that (so not the battery), no LED charging light, computer doesn't pick it up, unresponsive and will not turn on in any mode.
As far as I have read, that's SDS.

ok it may well be if it wasn't updated , if it was parallel imported that could well be the case.
As to water damage, well hard to tell unless you check the indicators so can't be ruled out especially if they are checking for warranty, if you have read up you would have seen cases of this.
If the battery is stuffed would the charge lights be on? not sure may need to check that as well, you may also have a bent pin in USB connector in phone but if the phone had been recently charged that can probably be ruled out.
As far as Fairbuy have seen they don't follow CGA but it isn't a choice whether you do or not its law.

jeffnz: actually I was meaning xda-developers as it was more in depth than on here.
The reason I wrote on this thread, as I've already specified, was to talk to the other person in my situation from the same retailer and also so anyone else who may have been lurking like I was could see it - but thanks anyway :)

That was the first thread I went to; however, since the phone is dead none of the fixes are applicable to my situation.

most welcome thats what we do on here , try to help, my apologies I didn't realise you didn't need any as you have it sorted.
Hope it works out for your sister and they replace her phone.
Insanekiwi: I am not sure if this was stated before.
If you go to Samsung NZ - mobile phones are covered for 2 years under manufacturer's warranty. This applies to all NZ New phones I believe.
