I can't really understand why someone would buy one of these over an iphone X, which is a far more advanced piece of tech IMO, without known issues, plus a NZ warranty etc. I guess the camera in the pixel is supposed to be better, but a dedicated good quality camera should produce far better shots.

Personal preference, there are many different types of people out there!

besides, I personally think the IPX interface is a compromised mess, they should've just done it like Android ;)

I guess it comes down to personal preference in the ecosystem.

Whilst the pixel 2 does have it's drawback especially from a hardware design, I personally like the software experience that google provides on their phones and no doubt the camera adds an extra sweetener.

FYI - the Pixel 2 is now available from Dick Smith's website. some models are coming soon, but you can buy the smaller one!

Doesn't translate to NZD too badly vs having someone collect it ex Au for me.

I guess the only we would need to factor in our calculation is the potential addition of import duty to that price?

Personally, I'm not a fan of bringing a dedicated camera when travelling, so the camera alone is enough for me. As well preferring Android on phones, unlimited uncompressed photo/video backup for 3 years, and the X's $1800 price.

I'm waiting for the Pixel 2 to drop below $1300 at local retailer for warranty/CGA

Yeah, certainly it needs to drop in price IMO to be logical contender.

Has anyone bought from Simitronics before?

They have the Pixel 2 64GB in stock, Black is NZ$1,163.68 and White is NZ$1,104.01

Both prices are suspiciously low, at best I was hoping for NZ$1,200, maybe they don't include GST?

Simitronics claim their returns and processes refunds are in accordance with the New Zealand Consumer Law

I ordered one through Dicksmith today, the price seems reasonable ~$1300 if you consider the import tax.

Simitronic just seems too iffy...

I am thinking of doing the same, Simitronic seems to good to be true.

Have they given you an updated estimated delivery date?

I'm leaving the country at the end of next week, so I'm worried it might not arrive on time since they say its about 1-2 business days for shipping and 3-5 business days for shipping to Auckland.

I've ordered on Wednesday and by Thursday ~11pm, I got an email saying it got dispatched, so lets see how long Toll NZ takes to deliver.

Cant wait to get my hands on it tho :)

The best reviews are those people who buy the product with their own money IMO.

nice...

Delivery for mine is scheduled for tomorrow. It's in auckland atm, presumably at a sorting depot. So far I've tracked it about 15 times today hoping for a change in status... lol

That's pretty quick - I will "hopefully" see mine by the end of the week. All going well.
