I paid $529 + AZ state tax @ 5.6% of $29.62. Visa exchange rate used was 0.733 charge to NZ visa was $761.92 + Overseas Service Charge 2% $16. Total NZ $777.92.

What I need is a friend in Montana or New Mexico where there is no state tax.

I get mine Tuesday next week.

Actually, brief and infrequent touches on the phone are allowed by the new law, if the phone is mounted:

"Mobile phones secured in a cradle can be used to make and receive calls if the driver pushes buttons on the phone only briefly and infrequently.

Entering a full phone number is permitted if the action is brief and infrequent."

Well out of interest I did try do do dialling in the car tonight. It involved the following steps with the phone in a cradle.

1. Press the power button and then slide the green switch over to the right to unlock the phone
2. I had the phone already set to dialer and in favourites so pressed the icon for dialling a person
3. Confirmed I wanted to make a non Google Voice call (I think GV is installed by default though I did update the version I had)
4. The phone rang and when the other party answered it transferred automatically to my BT handsfree kit.

So it's okay if you have the number you want in your favourites. I wouldn't want to be searching all contacts or trying to dial numbers while driving since my cradle is part of a cigarette lighter charger and so you need to look down to perform these actions.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Hey Jamesyb0i

How did you get away with no state sales tax. I thought they charged the rate of tax applicable to where you had the phone sent to? I thought shipito was a CA address, therefore would attract CA sales tax?

Remember on the shipito website I put price: $335 in the claims form. And my package is yet to arrive - could incur more fees I don't know.

Hi all, I've been following this thread and desperate to get a hold of a nexus. I've tried registering with shipito but now when I try to log in it tells me that my account is not active. I don't have any activation emails from them, have I missed a step?

Cheers

Has anyone used the Shipito (California shipping address) method to purchase their N1 beside jamesyb0i. He seems to some how avoided 9.25% California sales tax that Ichiu7 incurred who also has a California shipping address?
If so how much tax did Google charge you. Because if like jamesyb0i you get away with the tax, this pays for the shipito fee and postage costs. i.e

jamesyb0i NZ$800.52
Ichiu7 NZ$801

jamesyb0i: okay I set up an address with shipito.com and I'm buying the nexus one now.

Got something like this

Name
2972 Columbia St.
# Number
Torrance, CA 90503

but no postal code, I did some searching and assume it's 3806

This maybe why, jamesyb0i can you confirm what I suspect.  That is you enter the address including the CA zip code of 90503 into say the city address field.  Then entered 3806 into the zip code field.  Thus confusing Google into charging no state sales tax, but cleverly still providing the address information for the phone to be shipped correctly to Shipito.

Anyone else want to try this to confirm. I might because you don't have to go through with purchase. Just see if ti confuses the web pages tax calculation. He He!

Twobikes - right on the money! You are correct, if you fudge the zip code you don't get charged the tax. Mine is ordered finally (had to use hotspot shield in the end rather than tor).

Thanks guys, will post progress (especially on the tax front)

I think shipito zip code on nexus one order is

90503 = tax
90503-3806 = no tax

Can anyone confirm
