For me definitely better than the original iPad. Whether its better than the iPad 2 is really a matter of opinion and usage. I like the freedom of Android and do a reasonable amount of content creation (that is creating documents, taking notes, etc) so the keyboard dock and how well it integrates sets it apart. If I was just after content consumption and didnt mind becoming an itunes slave the iPad 2 would be attractive.

lokhor: Would you guys say the Transformer is better than a 1st gen iPad?

In the same way a Samsung Galaxy S is better than the iPhone 2.

But in all honestly, depends. Do you like lots of apps that someone has decided are a good idea? iPad could work for you. Do you want a random variety of apps of various qualities that may be awesome, or some plain awful? Android is your cup of tea. Do you want a Netbook form factor? Do you want any different hardware? It's all Android.

I couldn't install it from the market (any search would not return the Viber app) nor could I install it from the web Marker (it said I didn't have any compatible device)
Maybe using the apk but I haven't bothered looking for it yet...

I'm still tossing up between this and the iconia, The 3g of the iconia is a huge plus but the transformers keyboard/battery is a huge plus aswell. I've had some hands on time with the Iconia at DSE and it felt like a very nice unit. With the spec's so close together it's a tough call since I can get a handson with the transformer

There are some VLC remote apps on the market. They can remotely control and even stream onto the tablet. Haven't been able to try it tho, as my netbook is not grunty enough to do the recompression.

Asus have bundled the Splashtop software with the ASUS, install splashtop on your PC and you can stream video to your tablet no problem (at least thats what I do).

I havent tried a USB DVD player and have doubts about whether it would work. Assuming you only want to rip non-copyrighted material then what I have been doing is using the DivX converter to rip to an AVI file and then just watching that Wink.

For watching your standard DVD's streaming via splashtop is probably the best option (although keen to hear if anyones tried a USB DVD player)

I like the TF better. I found I could live without the 3G and when in a pinch I just hotspot up my andorid phone and away I go (although a 3G TF is coming out I hear, the TF101G which would be perfect). For me having the keyboard just gives me so much more usability in terms of creating content (even emails) which are a pain on an onscreen keyboard. Plus the longer battery life and it was a no brainer for me.

That's exactly what i was tossing up about:

I wanted the Samsung 10.1 with 3g when it gets released, but the price of the Transformer and the IPS screen just made me cave in, decided it would be easier to tether my Galaxy S 2 or iPhone 4(work phone, forced upon me)

Ah cool will try splashtop then.

I dont have a USB DVD but it would be easier to buy a USB enclosure and throw in a dvd rom if that was a workable solution. I have 100's of dvds I dont want to rip them all.

Sharing via splashtop from dvd rom may work tho.

Question about the keyboard, Can you flip the screen onto the back of the keyboard so it's back in tablet form factor without detaching the keyboard and if so does it disable the keyboard/trackpad? The dock is the only way for USB devices to plug in as I understand it and In a pinch I'd like to use the work vodem in it
