jabme: Just spotted the Note on Bond and Bond's site. $1200!

http://www.bondandbond.co.nz/shop/phones/mobile/vodafone/samsung-galaxy-note/prod115445.html

?

.
wow interesting that Bond & Bond have cottoned on to this device

Think I'll save myself $300 and get it from Clove in that case.

They do say "special order only" which suggests it's not an item they'll be holding in stock if they can avoid it.

I've been researching the Note for a while now, and have decided the Note will definitely be my next phone. I have first started on "encouraging" my employer to buy one for me.
Much as I am convinced the Note is a fantastic phone, and will suite me really well, I can't quite justify spending my own money on it yet - given that my SGS is still working perfectly well, as is my Asus Transformer tablet.
I am thinking that with the Galaxy Note, I may skip upgrading the tablet (to a Transformer Prime) - or at least delay that a year or so.

Another justification for the Note could be avoiding paying for a map upgrade for my oldish TomTom GPS unit. If the Note works well enough as a in-car GPS unit, that would be a better option for me.

kind regards Andrew TD

My SGS2 does duty as incar GPS and it works fantastically, it stands to reason that the Note should be even better as it has far superior GPS performance and obviously, the bigger screen.

Andrew check my YouTube channel if you want to see how good the Note is as a GPS unit (spoiler: it's awesome).

Oh, and read my review too if you haven't yet! Uber detailed GPS section...

Thanks guys. Everything I read on this phone reinforces my intent to get one :)
I wonder whether the Vodafone intro of the Note (tomorrow?) will bring the overall NZ$ buy price down for them. (I tend to watch the prices on it at pricespy) Somehow I don't think they will change much. Still basically a just under $1k phone.

Hi,

For those who would want to purchase an extra stylus pen for Galaxy Note,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Axiotron-Digitizer-Pen-Modbook-Tablet-PC-Wacom-/400278740434?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d3278ddd2

I purchased one from Ebay, and it works on Galaxy Note. It includes several tips, 3 hard tips, 3 pencil-like tips and 3 hard tips with spring. You can use the upper end as an eraser. It looks like a real pen, but quite light in weight. It perfectly matched my wife's white Galaxy Note, because it is also white.

I have not used it myself, but my wife said it works perfect. (ie. I dont know if it was a compliment)

Official word from Samsung:

The Samsung GALAXY Note launches this week through selected Vodafone New Zealand stores, RRP$1,199

Price is a bit steep, but not unexpected.

From their article here: http://www.samsung.com/nz/news/localnews/2012/-kate-sylvester-and-otis-frizzell-embrace-technology-at-work

Can't say I'm interested in a fashion designers opinion of any form of technology, but maybe I'm not the target market.

Their Facebook page also says "The GALAXY Note is in stores now (exclusive to Vodafone New Zealand). " - no mention of the device whatsoever on Vodafone's website though. I'll trot down the road and see if the local guys are aware of its existence.

I see it's around $888 inc GST at Expert Infotech (via pricespy)
I too looked for mention of the release on the Vodafone website.
Am also disappointed not to have been notified by vodafone that they (supposedly) now have it available for sale - as I registered on their website to be notified when it was available.

Hmm, I wonder where theirs are sourced from. They're listed as "in stock". Anyone ever dealt with them?

Local VF store was as well informed as I've come to expect. "We might get it in a couple of months, it's only just been released overseas. ". Well, about 4 months ago, yeah.

At least the girl was pleasant.

I've purchased from Expert Infotech a number of times, never had problems. I note that their after-sales service has a relatively poor reputation though, so in the unlikely event you ran into troubles they might be troublesome to deal with.

On that recommendation, I shot them an email to verify availability, they replied very quickly with an affirmation, and I placed my order. Presumably I'll need a NZ adaptor for the charger, but it's not like I have any shortage of existing chargers.

Now I just need to order the car mount from Clove or Handtec.

You wont need a car mount from Clove or anywhere overseas. Got one locally from a retailer from less than $30.
Problem being I cant remember where.
Ill add a photo which may help.
It used to hold my SGS2 as well

I like the genuine one, it's well made and actually announces itself as a "Dock" when plugged in.

Update on the Note availability - _Apparently_ a VF store in Queen Street, Auckland has one. Given that there's _still_ no mention on the website and whoever looks after their Facebook page and their Wellington store staff are still unaware of a release date, it's pretty poor. Do VF not like money, or do they just not think anyone is interested because it doesn't have a fruit logo on it?

My guess is that they (vf) are either
+ incompetent and just generally slack on doing launches on new mobile phones, or
+ scared of the reception the Note is going to get in the market - most non-techy people would probably ridicule it to start with, or
+ are wisely holding back till they get decent amounts of stock available
