jeffnz: anyone tried the GE 4.4 yet, just about to flash now, already using CM 11 kitkat and its fast

You first! Interested to hear how it goes, I'd like 4.4 but not with Knox.

Tried CM on my TF101 tablet, didn't like it at all.

I haven't flashed yet as it seems it has issues with rebooting. I'll let you know what happens, I didn't check whether it had knox bootloader, I'm assuming it doesn't.

GE doesn't have Knox, that's Samsung only.

I'm running this 4.4 GE ROM and am so far finding it nice.

My only problem was that I needed to upgrade my modem to MJ5 to get a stable connection. I'll give it a day or three before deciding if it's stable enough for every day use.

I like the idea of GE - rapid updates, probably well tested, and much more trustworthy than the random ROMs out there. They could be anything in those ROMs and no-one would know.

Unfortunately there is enough of a hardware difference that the GE ROM's for the 9505 are not compatible with the updates. Sure it sucks, but at least I get GE features.

So you'd have to update manually each time a ROM is released? That's not really a big problem.

I definitely don't want to do the Samsung Knox ROM, beacuse of Knox and all the Samsung apps, but I want 4.4 sooner or later. I may end up on Cyanogenmod just because it's well known and trustworthy, I only hesitate because it was awful on my TF101 - slow and crashed often. The echo one sounds interesting, but it's not a big name so I trust it less, and the feature list is huge - I consider that a downside, complexity and bloat.

It's not just a manual update, it's an update only when your ROM is updated and stable (which can take a while). But I agree, it's not a big problem.

I won't touch Samsung ROM's at all these days. Theres too much bloat in there on a phone which on a clean OS install only has a few GB free internally. The less bloat the better.

As for complexity I use the xposed framework to get the customisations I like. It lets me cherry pick what I want which means I don't have to live with other crud installed by the rom dev.

Can you tell us a bit more about Xposed mate? There's plenty online but practical stuff, what it does, how hard it is to use, practical benefits when you're trying different ROMs, etc.

The modules can let you change heaps of stuff. Hard to explain

Wanam xposed is a good module

another good module i found was one to enable the keyboard animation on the s4 (it looks really stuttery how it just pops up normally)

Xposed looks interesting here - article here for others to read. Basically a way to add tweaks to your device that would be difficult to do otherwise.

I'm not sure it'd be very useful for me, but I might have a play some time. I still want a good 4.4 ROM for my i9505, I might have a look at it over Xmas.

I have a telecom handset and got a 141MB update this morning. All it said was improved stability in the description. That wasnt very explanatory.

This is after the 4.3 which already came sometime ago. And the version no is still 4.3 after this mornings update.

Anyone has any idea what this update was for..?
