She has a ideos x5 which is getting a bit clunky now. Budget $400. Too many to choose from can I have some real user suggestions? we like Samsung, LG but unsure which model is best value. I read androidnz review on the G300 but a bit unsure on huawei after the ideos.

OK, I've only played with Windows Phones lately, but here's my NZ$0.02 (excl GST)

I bought my wife the Nokia 800, and she's glued to it. Not in your stated price range though.

I've just given the Nokia 610 a 2 week test-drive, and for $449 with no plan, its a very decent phone - worth it just for the Nokia Drive app. The Samsung Omnia W is $500, but is worth a look - has front facing video cam which works a treat with Skype.

yeah lumia 800 for $500 or Meizu MX DC around $280-$320 USD depending on source.

Nokia Lumia 710 is well within your budget. Telecom NZ sells them officially here or if you need the Vodafone/2degrees version then you can buy it from parallel imported.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Never thought about using a windows phones, shes pretty comfortable and happy with an android though. Thanks for the suggestions will look into those.

Its worth getting one in her hand for a while - they really are very intuitive to use. We use them as our standard work smartphone, and even high level management can pick one up and just use it without constantly calling for help - I have to sneak up on the CEO every now & then and steal his to run updates, otherwise I never hear from him about it.

Perhaps something like the Sony Xperia Sola or Sony Xperia U, both under $400 with dual core processors, fairly nice looking phones with good spec's and planned upgrade to android 4.0, the Sola is an import and has a few extra features over the U, which can be bought from any old phone shop.

But if you want something to last, well supported and great reviews, you will need to increase your limit a bit.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus
OR Samsung Google Nexus S Black Mobile Phone

I will vote for the Nexus but it's a bit higher than your price limit @ $534.00 from the fair buy website

This. My wife has just got one for work (610 or maybe 710) and thinks it is good. I think there are some sales on this at the mo as well.

Yes it is dead-ended but she doesn't care, it does her camera, email, calendar, maps and a browser.

I totally agree about going for getting the latest (make sure you get the right one!) Google Nexus.

New they're a bit more than your budget, but from trademe you should be able to get it within budget.

Alternative for within your budget a cheapie is LG 2X, here is both listed together:

Also the other ones mentioned before are good too, the Sony phones and the HTC ONE V (I've personally got the HTC ONE X, an epic awesome phone!).

I can't agree with this enough.

I've been trying to get my wife onto a smartphone for years but she wont have it. She wont even use my nexus for Skyping her mother overseas.

Her t610 died and she just took my old k800 from a drawer and used that.
