Hi All,

I've got one Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5110 16GB
This was a high end tablet back in its day.

After running through and doing OTA updates to Android 4.2.2 there are now hardly any apps showing in the Play store.
For example, under sports games, there is ...one.

I understand the the Google play store filters apps based on device compatibility. For some reason this device is now being flagged as incompatible with most apps in the app store.

There is no netflix listed in the play store. Netflix have a KB article instructing people to install the APK and use that.
Nova Launcher was not listed, but I downloaded the APK and it works fine.

Apps that used to work fine are now not able to be downloaded (A work program called iCOS live) etc. This tablet is pretty useless if it cant run apps from the Play store.

Does anyone have any tips for fixing this?
I've done a lot of google searches. There is no content filtering turned on in the play store account I'm using.

My next troubleshooting step will be to download the latest official ROM from samsung and flash via Kies (hideous program).

I have  same tablet and it's now relegated to reading the  news sites and a bit of Facebook.  Got a notification last week that there was a new outlook client available but   "Sorry this application is not compatible with your device.."

If you want a real tablet get an iPad.

If you want a tablet that does what a computer does get a surface.

Blame Samsung and stores selling out of date hardware/software
The tablet was release back in 2012 yet still selling in 2013 with the same price tag.

Samsung does not care as it already has your money and just a cost to update it after 1 version.

Blame places like DSE, noelleemings etc for selling outdated tech to anyone that buys it.
You can even blame places like 1day selling old hardware (today they are selling an ipad2 fro $300).

Developers stop supporting outdated OS's not much you can do about it.

Forget the iPad.  Nothing Apple thanx..   Most likely a Samsung Tab S  or equivalent.

I can understand saying an ipad, 1 good thing about apple is that they do update older hardware on day of release etc.
Samsung/Android you are lucky to get 1 update and can wait months after release of the OS to get it

Looks like there is cyanogenmod available for it - maybe thats worth installing.

Not sure how the google play store filters content based on devices - is it perhaps based on processor/graphics chip capabilities?
Actually I just found a good explanation http://developer.android.com/google/play/filters.html

You probably dont have a lot to lose by trying another ROM - there seem to be plenty of tutorials for it.
This one on youtube shows installing Lollipop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se_PWi-bJpE

You can always try replacing the existing Samsung version of Android with something like CyanogenMod

At least apple continue to support many of their older products, unlike samsung. I have both, and and have an old ipad 2 which is is still getting ios updates 4-5 years after it came out, which makes it still relevant. That said, they do drop support for some models quickly, like the ipad 1 didn't get supported for very long. My samsung only got updates for less than 2 years, and they were realy slow at releasing those. If I was getting an android tablet, I would get a Google one, such as a nexus.

I've got an iPad and a Galaxy Tab S, I'd like to get this tablet working. It did used to have no trouble getting almost all apps.

Now the play store only displays very few apps, very disappointing that the device gets so severely restricted retroactively.

If someone has the same tablet, can they confirm the same?

When I tried to restore my samsung via kies, it didn't work. If you think itunes is bad, kies is a million times worse.

If you are willing to take a walk on the wild side there seem to be heaps of KitKat and Lollipop ROMs on XDA available for the Tab 2 10.1.
Not much to lose if rooting/flashing goes wrong since it is virtually a paperweight now according to your OP.

And please people do we need yet another Fruit vs Robot discussion taking over a thread?

I have one of these at work as a test device (will need to blow the dust off the box), if I remember on Wednesday I will have a look for you (not in tomorrow).

Agree with others suggesting cyanogenmod.  It can really breath new life into old devices.

i through it on my TF700T, not really much faster but it sure helped the battery issue that they had + its a newer version of Android than Asus ever cared to release.
