If they can't sell a phone without this crapy invite system they should move to making something else..

It's a differentiator. Allows them to perhaps cover for smaller production runs, but really, it's just so they have something totally unique...

That was meant to be a joke, based on the lavishness of the links posted!

I was interested, but they've had a falling out with CyanogenMod. They're now using a homebrew version - "OxygenOS". I'll definitely be waiting and seeing how that performs before committing.

Yeah I don't think "falling out" is quite accurate, more like "a parting of the ways". Oxygen is pretty basic, or at least, V1 was when I checked it out. Functional but without frills. I'd expect they will have a lot more in store for the release of the Oneplus Two. I also wouldn't be surprised to see CyanogenMod (note: NOT the same thing as CyanogenOS!!) builds appearing for it so you should be able to stick with that instead.

Looking forward to the announcement, could be a possible contender. Not sure about this whole invite routine, given that they're physical cards it may totally rule out getting one outside of their target market areas until they start popping up in retail or on ebay, but we shall see.

If the price is as suspected (<US$450) then I'll be quite keen on trying to source one depending on final product.

Not really that excited about the Oneplus 2 to be honest. The Oneplus 1 was on par with most of the flag ships, this seems to be well behind. Price isn't a huge factor for me.

I think Oxygen is going to be good, just take a bit more time. They seem to have hired quite a few devs from the Paranoid Android project, so it could be a seriously interesting ROM once they get some steam up. I also like that it is going to be a slightly smaller phone than the OPO. I will certainly be looking at it along with a few other options towards the end of the year.

I am actually quite excited for this one. OnePlus is quite an exciting new company and I am really enjoying what they are doing. I would really prefer to support such a company than Samsung to be honest.
