Hey there,

So I was wondering. How many of you GZers have noticed light bleed on the Note 8 (and if you have noticed, have you returned your note, or turned it in for service)? I only just noticed it on mine. It's okay, but now I know it's there, it is a bit annoying.

I would be surprised if it was considered a warranty matter unless it was severe.

That's what I was thinking. The light bleed happens on both edges, but with the brightness down to ~80% you'd have a hard time noticing it unless you were looking at something bright white

Backlight bleed is a well-known manufacturing limitation of LED based products.

Thankfully manufacturers and retailers don't decide these matters. If it's the edge bleed shown in many web posts it's definitely a defect.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I have not noticed anything untoward about mine.

However, I do run it with a black screen for wallpaper so it would only show when I look at white background web and mail etc I suppose and I have not seen anything. Trying not to get paranoid now...

I had my left side fixed by Samsung Approved repairer under warranty.
My right side has bleed also. I noticed right after the right side repair.
I didn't bother with repairing again but I informed both Samsung and showed the seller and had it noted in case I want it repaired in the future.
I csnt imagine they'd argue much if you want it repaired but it's not visible in any of my cases and I don't sell my phone's so I can't really see it being an issue for me.
But I understand some people are pretty old about these things.
The zero charge issue worries me more tbh.

Best of luck, but just get the alcantara case, it feels amazing and you'll never see the bleed again :)

Yep, there's noticeable light bleed on my Note 8 as well (purchased from Spark). I haven't returned it but I'm now selling it off on Trade Me since I dropped it and the screen broke. :(

It's a nice case but offers very little screen impact protection...!

I've had issues where the edge panel will activate when I'm trying to tap something close to the edge screen which I'd imagine is similar

Backlight bleed is a well-known manufacturing limitation of LED based products.

But doesn't the Note 8 use an OLED screen, so there is no LED backlight like on LED screens. On OLED screens it is the actual pixels that light up, so black shouldn't light up at all. So I can't see how there should be any bleed. You do get bleed on poorer quality and older gen LED screens, sometimes at the edges, or the blacks can be very grey. My old samsung had an OLED screen and no bleed whatsoever, even though that is now 5 year old phone, and screen tech has moved on a lot.

Maybe the OP needs to show a photo. ALso has it always been there, or has it developed? If it is something that has developed, it could be a manufacturing fault. My old ipad developed bright patches on it over time, and even after getting it swapped twice, the replacements also eventually developed the same problem. Apparently it was a lamination issue with the layers in the screen.

I have heard you can get some bleed with OLED screens with white text on black background, if the background isn't quite black, but a very dark grey, which means that all the pixels are on.

I think it's light from the screen travelling down to the edge and the edge isn't masked properly along the edges.

It isn't light bleed in the traditional sense, it's more refraction....imo of course.
