Ok, first post here.  I have been looking everywhere for an answer to this question.

With most of the new phones coming out soon (at MWC) I want to know if they can work in NZ.  I have been looking around an found that 2degrees say that if the phone works on 900mHz GSM then it is compatible (I am no expert on NZ mobile networks - tell me more if you know).  From looking on phonearena.com a few do support that, eg HTC inspire 4G.  So would they work on NZ networks? I guess not telecom, though I think that the samsung infuse 4G might work on all NZ networks (corect me).

I am just really excited about the new dual-core phones coming out and android 2.3 and all teh 8mp cameras and 1080p video (the list goes on) and I have put off buying a phone untill these come out - either to buy or to bring down prices.

Any feedback or info woujld be much appreciated!

ThanksCool

As long as they do the GSM or UMTS frequencies that NZ carriers run on, they'll work fine. (Be aware some US carriers call HSPA+ (UMTS) "4G")

Wow, thanks for the quick reply.

So you say "Be aware some US carriers call HSPA+ (UMTS) "4G".  So what is true 4G?  Does NZ support this HSPA+ anyway?

:)
There is no such standard as 4G yet. So there's no true 4G.
There is however LTE and WiMax, which are different things. No teleco here does LTE/WiMax yet, although I think there are small WiMax (by ISPs) deployments around.

I think Vodafone and telecom both have HSPA+ cells up in the main centres.

But buy a non-HSPA+ 4G phone is a bit of a waste as it's likely whatever LTE/WiMax that XT/Vodafone roll out won't work with it.

Ho, sorry.  I dont know why google never came up with that post...  I think it was because it came up with all the people talking about their stinking iPhone 4's

I see there were some specs of all these phones leaked today, though many think that they are fake or have errors.  How long does it usually take for new release phones to come to NZ? Obviously through importers...
