Hello,
I will preface this by saying I am very technically challenged.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 & use the vodafone mobile network.
Is there a way to connect my laptop through the mobile
so I can connect to the internet on that laptop.
I do not have a phone landline here.
Any advice would be welcome, (but basic terminology & simple instruction please).
Thanks

You can do this over the personal Hotspot or via USB cable, Its very straight forward

Does your computer have WIFI?

Are you on Vodafone Prepay or Postpay?

Use the personal Hotspot feature built into the handset over WiFi to your laptop

settinngs - wireless and network - tethering and portable hotspot - portable wifi hotspot settings

away you go!

Disable personal hotpost when not using it and make sure you set a WPA2 PSK Key so no one else can latch onto your handset and use the internet connection as well at your cost

Thanks John,
Got through some of that. I can see the Hotspot showing in my Wireless Networ connection window.
I presume that the WAP Key that the laptop asks for is the same as the password I entered when doing the settings on my Mobile Phone?
It just  sits on "waiting for network" when I click on Connect. Thanks

Have you data enabled on the handset?

Hold down power button for about 2 seconds and you will see the option,

As Data was already activated, nothing has changed has it?
Not quite sure what you mean by "pair handset with your laptop over Wifi"

Checklist:
Connected the Galaxy S2 to the laptop with the USB cable.
On the Galaxy S2 the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot is checked.
I view the available Wireless Networks
I click on my Android Hotspot & click connect.
I type in the password that I set on the Galaxy S2 in where it asks for the Network Key
I click on Connect
THEN
It still just sits on "waiting for network" when I click Connect
Thanks

My Galaxy S2 gets onto the internet here no problem.
My laptop connects fine  to the internet when I use a wireless Modem.
Thanks

Maybe your laptop does not support the WiFi security level your handset is set to,

It's all guessing from here!

John thanks for this information, I've found it really helpful. Now to wait for the price of mobile data to come down....

Might be easier to just use the USB tether rather than wifi. Plug your usb cable into your PC and phone. Go to Menu - settings - wireless and network - Tethering and Portable Hotspot - select USB tethering.

Your PC should load the drivers and you should be able to use the phone to get on the net.
