The British 3G operator 3 released the Symbian UIQ based Motorola A920, but users are not happy that only signed applications can run on this device. Applications developed for the Sony Ericsson P800 (also Symbian UIQ) are not running on this new device. An on-line petition is now available for users to sign.

The German mobile carrier O2 is set to turn on its 3G network on 17th November. First quarter 2004 is the earliest for a soft launch, with 1,000 test users.

In a surprising move 3 is doing what Orange did before with the SPV (Windows Mobile smartphone): only approved applications are allowed to run on the new Motorola A920 (Symbian based smartphone). Users have limited choice now.

Swedish-Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson launched its first 3G mobile phone on Monday and said it aims to return to profit this year by boosting market share as handset prices could fall more than 10 percent.
