So many of you will be aware of the thread I created about the performance issues with UFB: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=90&topicid=108935

Fortunately the problem was found and solved. And with that in mind I decided to upgrade my plan from 30/10Mb to 100/50Mb.

Now I'm having an issue where my speed after the upgrade seems to be on 30/50Mb. I can upload fine and it confirms that Chorus/Snap have made changes, but the download seems to be stuck at 30Mb like on my old plan.

The router I'm using is an Asus RT-N16 with Tomato Toastman. I don't think this is the issue though, as I can upload at 50Mb, so the very least I would expect is also 50Mb download if it was bottlenecked.

I've tried using a Windows PPPoE dialer (which Snap were surprised it worked) to test the connection, still the same.

I remember reading somewhere on here that some people also had issue with ISPs (maybe even Snap) not correctly provisioning the right speed?

And yes, I have contacted Snap a few times to try and diagnose this. The only thing they have really told me is that Chorus has confirm that I am in fact on the 100/50Mb plan.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Sneakerpimps,

Are you able to re-test this, perhaps to speedtest.net ?
We've made a few changes internally that should solve this for you.

Hi Tim, still the same. Tested from www.aspired.co.nz.

Also tried rebooting ONT as well as router.

Hey SneakerPimps,

Chorus have checked the ONT & confirmed it's been provisioned correctly. The light readings are also healthy, so not likely a physical fibre fault.
You have tried a direct PPPoE connection with similar results, so this rules out the modem as the cause.

Have you tried using a different web browser, or another PC? Just need to rule out as many things as we can Laughing
If you still have no luck we will organise to do some testing with Iperf.

Cheers

Hi Ricky,

Yes I have multiple computers connected to the network and all are showing the same results. I've also tried different browsers to run speedtest.net.

Most the time I use a download manager with multi-threaded downloads.

I've just done another test running my laptop only directly to the ONT, same results.

Thanks for replying at this time of the morning!

Hey Nick,

Fantastic work, thanks for doing that.
I have just sent this info back to Chorus, we'll see what they come back with!

Cheers

Hi Nick,

I think we've isolated and fixed a wee bug -

Can you re-test this again now?

Fixed!

I appreciate the effort you guys at Snap has gone through. Obviously UFB has bugs that need to be ironed out being that is still quite new.

Many thanks for the support.

I also have been with snap since Sept on Fibre. Initially I regretted it! (Similar issues to the OP) however snap did make up for it with the customer service. I highly recommend using the Fritzbox with fibre, just plug and play!

If anyone is going to fibre, snap is certainly the one I would pick!

Well done snap
