And Netflix, Lightbox, Amazon Prime do not produce a single hour of NZ content so of course they are going to be cheaper.

I can get that. "Dunno what it is, don't touch it Sonny"!  "Dang know it all whipper snappers, grumble grumble...."

"Dont change anything or I will have to get the man in to make it work again!"

Ease up on the old people bashing, folks. I am well over 70 and I do know how to turn on a computer. So do many of my acquaintances (the elderly ones do, the young ones usually don't have a clue with anything that isn't a phone). Back in the good old days (you wouldn't remember those, of course) I used to do system-level programming in assembly and I wrote some early anti-virus software. This was mainly hobby, not profession, and I am no longer up with current technology, but like I said, I still know how to turn on a computer. My household does still have Sky but I almost never watch it since I stream all the stuff that interests me. We are not all rest-home zombies dribbling into our bibs.

I heard the big party the staff at VF recently had was over done intended for a merger celebration, Decorations covered up that once would have been something to do with the merge.

So from what i have heard the merge is not going ahead. So it shouldn't.

From ZDNET:

Pay TV provider Sky TV and telecommunications carrier Vodafone NZ have pushed ahead with their proposed merger, receiving consent from the New Zealand Overseas Investment Office.

Sky and Vodafone were able to gain approval from the Overseas Investment Office instead of the commission because both companies are more than 25 percent owned by overseas entities, and because their asset value and purchase price are both worth more than $100 million.

I wondered if they were going to go that route.

I hope this ends up being a positive thing.

Does that mean they can bypass the CC? Or did they need consent from both?

Cleaver move. As a customer of both it will be interesting going forward what positives will be inline. However I am not counting it as a done deal yet I can see countless court cases coming.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

My question too. I'd be surprised if a national business law can be bypassed so easily.

Judging by it saying "instead of" in Mauricio's post I would assume they were able to go around the CC as opposed to through them.

Seems like NZs MSM is asleep at the wheel, as nothing about this yet on their websites.

If so, I wonder if it is a loophole? If so I wonder if this means that others could also use it, where they have been previously denied by the CC. IMO the commerce commission is there for a reason. It is also election year so I wonder if that will come into play on this.

Someone on Twitter mentioned that the OIO approve pretty much everything but CC still has the final say. Not sure if that's true or not.
