siva992: Worked out for you as in?

I paid the $600 up front and haven't had to pay monthly "recording" fee of $15 in all my years of being a sky customer.

Ah, ok. No what I meant was, even when you bought the equipment, you still had to return the equipment when you cancel Sky TV. You wouldn't get any refunds at all.

Nope - I wouldn't get any refunds for the equipment. It's effectively a deposit. The agreement I had with sky at the time made it clear it was a sunk cost and I wouldn't get it back.

I also paid the $600 upfront.  I can't remember the exact wording but it was clear that the customer wasn't buying the equipment, ownership stayed with Sky (still does).  It was more of a lump-sum upfront to prevent an ongoing $15 per month.  I got the original silver MySky on launch , then paid maybe another $45 when the HDi MySky was released.  I can't remember exactly when it was but if it is 13 years as Sheriff mentioned then we've each saved roughly $1700 each.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

With the $600 on old box’s there was the benefit of saving $15 a month. After 40 months the $600 has been saved with this.

With these new box’s they want a non refundable up front payment, self install, and even though up front payment they still charge the $15 MySky fee so they are having their cake and eating it too.

As of today - they are offering the new sky box for $0

I would take it and deal with the painful experience - but my wife hates the box with a vengeance - and she might not just divorce me - she would probably bury me in the back garden.  She might or might not kill me first...

I was briefly tempted as I am currently considering a new ISP.  Sanity and self preservation prevailed.

mySky HDi was released around or before June 2008 as HD sport transmissions started then.

Try getting support if you aren’t in place where they have techs on the ground (such as Dunedin).

My hdi box died after Christmas, and it took 26 DAYS to get a replacement. They tried to give me the new internet box, but I’m not going there until it’s at least as operationally solid as the old technology!

I’m still trying to get a discount for the period when I couldn’t record or playback content. Their customer service is woeful.

https://m.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU0509/S00064/skytv-revolution-my-sky-launch-date-confirmed.htm

December 2005.

I had the silver one first which wasn’t HD and found a statement from 2006. Also found return receipt, 15/8/22

So I had it for around 16 years.  They did the upgrade to HDi for around $50 from memory.

Just pointing out that the savings on the $15 monthly were able to be made before the HD box came out.

Edit: At end of article looks like the $599 was only offer at time, no MySky subscription offered.

We use our regular sky box for watching sport and that's it. Anything else we use the Apple TV.

Is there any benefit for using the new box over the old if you're not using any of the apps?

That’s probably the best compromise, because the new box is not up to streaming high bitrate hi-res with hi-res audio consistently. Apple TV 4K is a much more capable unit..

Wouldn't you be better off ditching the box altogether and getting Sky Sport Now for the Apple TV?
