Came back to sky, got the new sky box back in hopes this time things changed, installed it, got rid of it all in 1 hour. Same sh*tty performance, interface and remote control. It's not even a set top box. It's a freaking screenless android phone for the TV with an interface not for the TV. Waiting to get my old reliable black sky box reactivated now.
Sky claim less churn on new boxes. However they still lost 30K box users in last financial year.
Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.
Sky really need to ditch set top boxes and start rolling out apps for the full suite of channels and services, so you can use the box/smart TV of your choice.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

This is the reason I have resisted the change to the new box. The old box just runs fine and is all I need.

Can I also add that compared to 2023 when I first got the new sky box, they persuaded me to keep using the new sky box 3 times even though I wanted to return it and get back my old reliable sky box. Literally kept me hostage to their new sky box saying it's still in developmental stages but now in 2025, I had no questions asked when I want to return the new sky box. Looks at the call centre has given up probing customers on those questions.
Also. the old large size remote is much nicer and easier to use than the android one, which feels like it will break if you press too hard or too often.
cheers to progress. CD

There is an industry standard on how pay TV equipment should look and feel, and the new sky remote control is nowhere near it. It's not hard to Google and find out how other people are doing it like Foxtel and Astro in Malaysia, even the sky glass remote control in the UK is somewhat reasonable to what the new skybox has.

The set top boxes require only satellite access with internet access as optional. TV apps require streaming-capable internet access with no satellite access required.
Sky have to maintain satellite broadcasting for those who cannot or will not migrate to internet-based delivery, and satellite broadcasting has a high cost infrastructure requirement that works only when there are hundreds of thousands of customers sharing satellite broadcasting costs. Ideally Sky would do both, but they exhibit fear of how a large migration away from satellite reception would kill their profitability. Equally so might moving to internet-only delivery because of the competition from the myriad of other streaming-entertainment providers.

What can those remotes do that the Sky remote can't? Apart from maybe backlighting I can't see any difference.

This is helpful for me thanks. I'm about to sign up for another year and I'm sure they will try push the new box on me. Perfectly happy with the black box although the fact they have taken away on demand services does grind my gears. I can use the sky go workaround with airplay but having an all in one solution would be nicer.

I do appreciate the perspective
As a long time sky customer that did try an early adoption of the new sky box, I returned it. My wife was not happy with it, and in all fairness to her, the user experience was totally not up to standard. Any Standard.
Recently, probably 6 mths ago now, we tried again. There were a few bumps, but the experience was better in 2 crucial areas.
While my wife doesn't love the box. she is happy enough.
The net + (otherwise known as the reasons to shift)
I totally respect the folks in geekzone who think the new box is a mess - and it is true the interface IS quite different. I'm just wanting to offer the opinion that many of the teething issues seem to have improved a lot from when I first tried 18mths ago to 6 mths ago when we got (& kept) the new box a second time
I would not recommend it for Plex or Kodi if you’re in to high quality playback with ir without Hi-res audio.
Yes the apps can be installed in the box, but playback performance is not up to standard AFAIAC.
Even the YouTube app is flakey at best.
my two cents, cheers CD
