I have told countless friends and family about this deal, but no one has taken it up - I think they either don't believe me or just think it is too much effort.

SumnerBoy:

You are missing nothing - only correction is it is $49 for Basic, MySky, free install + 2 packages (i.e. Sports and Movies). 6 months minimum contract, and reverts to full pricing after 12 months. You have to pay an extra $10 for HD - so $59/month.

It is a ridiculous deal. Why everyone doesn't do it I will never know!

Are they offering any deals for other add-ons, or only sport and movies? Only one I'm really interested in is Soho, given the lack of Showtime and HBO stuff available elsewhere...

It's any two premium channels, including Soho. Only condition is that if you want the Rugby channel as one of them, Sky Sport must be the other one.

Showtime and HBO can be added to Amazon Prime.

I cancelled recently as moved house and no dish. Will wait 2 or 3 months and get the deal.

But. My Panny Freeview works ok, not as nice and easy as MySky, but it works ok. All I am missing is sport, or will be when it starts to air.

I will see how well Fanpass works (quality and stability) and go from there. 50 bucks for Sky incl Sports is cheap, but" Free" View and Fanpass

might do all I need and be lower cost. One less box and AV channel changing to worry about.

Maybe this is part of the cord cutting that we find is less "needed" than we thought when we had it?

Got a call from the call centre who offered me 12 months of basic with mysky for $29, and $49 with movies and sport included for 12 months!

Pity I already have one.

Called up today and got mysky, hd ticket & sports for just <$50 per month. The lady I dealt with was lovely and even arranged for the install to happen tomorrow. Too easy

The thing I find strange is that they do very little for their existing subscribers. I used to get a thing on my birthday giving me a free movie, but haven't seen that even for several years now.

I do agree with the post above that much of the attraction of Sky is that it is all in one place. If I want any of the other streaming things, I have to tie up the broadband and either watch them in my office where there are no relaxing chairs or spend money working out how to and buying equipment to get the picture from the router in one part of a concrete Faraday cage to another. (My house is concrete blocks filled with mass concrete and steel rods in the block voids, so wifi has a hard life!)

In life you don't worry about other people too much. They will do what they want to do.

And to boot, there are a world of alternatives. Youtube is basically infinite, for free. Netlix (who have had a big content boost lately) etc, for pennies, Freeview.....

Sky survives on the key sports and the inertia of people to change.

A key factor is that it is all in one place. One remote, no devices to setup, it just works. While it doesnt have the TV/Movie content of NF or LB it has a wide plethora of content. Something for everyone. Broadcast TV is alive and well, and the change is slow, so I doubt Sky has any issues, they will change a bit before they need to. They have put OnDemand in place, and Neon as an SVOD in place. Fan pass. SkyGo. IMHO they are well set to up whatever ante is required, literally at the drop of a hat. I can easily see a day when we wake up and Sky announces that you can get Sky via satellite, MySky, etc or stream it.
