Does nothing for me except I get SoHo for free. The valuable things on Sky for me are the Sports and what's going to become Sky Entertainment. I'm still paying $24.91 for a pile of garbage that I don't want. Not that Discovery et al aren't also being diluted by never-ending staged "reality" shows.

So the list of what will be on Starter isn't too bad (for me):

I'd have liked Living in there, but obviously they see that as premium (albeit a very low bitrate, horrible picture, premium). FoodTV will be OK.

Still no word on whether or not they are dropping the HD ticket fee, or changing the MySky rental, which I will assume means those fees will still be there. MySky, maybe fair enough - it is pretty much the best DVR available in NZ at the moment. HD Ticket - who doesn't have an HD TV these days - it should be included (and then they can free up transponder space by not broadcasting both the HD, and non HD streams).

Food TV, History, Living. They are excellent if you have interests in those topics. Food TV has shows from all over the world, of differing types, and even Local NZ content.

Just because YOU don't see the value in it, doesn't mean it doesn't have value.

It still comes back to this:

If Netflix offers *you* better than Sky, get Netflix, but there are 650,000 people in NZ that Sky provides value to. Sky isn't making billions in profits and ripping people off, most people wouldn't be happy making the % margin they make. It costs money to provide coverage over the area they do, in areas internet is rubbish. NZ is a widely distributed and low population density. Sky punches above it's weight for that. It's the same basic principle for how lucky we are to have coverage for cellphones in the areas we do.

Good point. What do you reckon a fair Fanpass price would be? I think $55, would prefer $49 (or less, ha).

We mainly subscribe to Sky for sport. We'll probably drop back to the starter package and take the $25 saving.

If, like me, you have Sky only to get the Sports package, a $25 discount is pretty good.

Starter = $24.91
Sports = $29.99

Total = $54.90 for "Sports" is how I view it. Works out less than $13 per week. Plus the kids channels are useful for our family so a win win really.

I'm about to come off the Sky deals package and will switch to Vodafone TV. Pretty sure you don't need HD ticket on that.

So if you get the sky entertainment package you don't get free to air channels and in order to watch those you would have to switch over to freeview

It doesn't say, and the articles are a bit confusing, if you have to have Starter to get Entertainment.

I am assuming you do need Starter before tacking anything else on top.

Yep, but fanpass is still $99 - just suggesting they should cut that price too - even $50 a month seems like a lot for just the sport channels on fanpass

Yep, but fanpass is still $99 - just suggesting they should cut that price too - even $50 a month seems like a lot for just the sport channels on fanpass

Sport isnt cheap to provide, so it will always be a decent price

Wondering about these quoted prices. I pay $93.51 per mth for Basic + Sport with a MySky HDI and no HD ticket.
