I’m trying these settings out. Did not realise my current Apple TV 4k settings aren’t optimised.

If I have it on 4K HDR 50hz but set match content and frame rate on would that still be the same as @kharris settings. Would it automatically switch from 4k HDR 50hz to 4K Sdr 50hz?

No. Apple TV tries to convert all content to HDR which can look awful sometimes. If you set to SDR then both SDR content and HDR content are played in the correct definition with match content switched on.

Edit. Interesting. I just tried this out and SSN did seem to change to SDR. I’m pretty sure this is quite new. It hasn’t always switched to SDR correctly. Maybe this is a change from Apple?

In saying that I note that the YouTube app doesn’t switch so always looks washed out in HDR.

@kharris I just kept it to your current settings. It’s probably better to go from SDR to HDR than HDR to SDR with match content and frame rate on

I don’t use SSN I just saw your post about how the Apple TV aren’t optimised properly and you have to manually set it.

Why would I want to subject my eyes to the pain of doing that? Like most of the world we live in a 50Hz country meaning power and broadcast TV is at 50Hz. Running a PC display at 60Hz when power is at 50Hz can introduce horrible flicker under certain lighting conditions. Maybe you're somebody who doesn't notice flickering of some lighting or screens, but in recent years it's something I've really started to notice on occasion.

Setting screens at the same frequency as power is IMHO the logical thing to do when it's possible - obviously not every screen monitor will support 50Hz though whereas every TV will.

Interesting .. the screens I've been using at work are locked to 60Hz and I've never had an issue

Just my two cents. Comparing the football on Spark yesterday, and the rugby on SS4 now, the difference is night and day. SSN appears blocky and stuttery, where as Spark was smooth. I remember sky go being very good, but SSN is without doubt worse, and I just don't know why that would be. Surely the same source?!

Hi all, New SSN subscriber here. Set up is IPad or android phone SSN app casting to smart vu (android TV) which has chromecast. Typically every few minutes I get the spinning icon. I break the cast and recast and it works again. Not a problem with bandwidth etc (other apps on smart vu see rock solid). Any ideas gratefully received! Thanks

The inbuilt Chromecast on the Smart Vu device isn’t currently supported on Sky Sport now unfortunately. However, the Android TV release is now in it’s final stages.

I didn't realise there was two classes of chromecast...
