The big red "view answer" button is your friend people.

Dude this thread is over 30 pages long. In that time the 'answer' may have changed. It's natural for people to ask if it's still current and what the situation is now.

Dude - the answer was updated not that long ago. And anyone can set a new answer if it is ever out of date. Seen as I wrote it I would know.

Hi. I just signed up for this deal today, ringing the number mentioned on the post on page 1. This is my 2nd time on this deal. Finished my last deal on the 1st January. This time I'm going with SOHO instead of movies, along with the Mysky+ box, sport and HD ticket all for $59.90. The lady on the phone is very helpful. Hopefully sky tech will be here by Friday.

kharris:

I also added the HD ticket for $10 - so $58 all up.  Still a great deal.

Charging $10 for an HD ticket is an insult.

Maybe when HD was premium sure.  But, HD is standard now, 4k is premium.

I feel this way too.  Someone's bound to say soon that "That's how it's done overseas" but I agree that within say 2-3 years time, the majority of cameras and TV's etc will be 4K capable.

Youtube and Netflix already offer 4K streams where the content allows.  HD is no longer a premium option, it should be the norm.

If not right now, then at least at 720P.  That SD stuff they serve up without an HD ticket is rubbish, and was fine 5-10 years ago, but not anymore.

Netflix might offer limited 4K content but there is three different subscription options. 1 for SD, 1 for HD, and a premium sub for 4K stream.

The difference is that with streaming , many people want SD because their internet connection may not be able to handle HD. Plus they may have a data quota. But over the air transmission doesn't have such restrictions

That may be true but it still costs more. If I was just down to consumer choice why not offer all three at the same rate.

It maybe better to look at it the other way around. That is, if I only want SD, why should I have to pay the HD or 4K price? But other streaming services like lightbox don't offer different pricing or different options. It is HD or nothing. I think Amazon also just has a single price no matter what the resolution is.

You could take that up with Netflix as to why they differentiate on SD, HD, and 4k.

FYI: Had multiroom installed (I'm on the $49 deal since June)

The install was free, the $25 per month was charged straight away to the account (which is in credit).

I don't really care. I don't think it's an abnormal practice. Someone was just saying why does sky charge extra. They used the example of Netflix. I was simply pointing out that Netflix does charge more based on the quality of the stream.

You also get more streams on the other Netflix plans so it's more like multi room

I believe that on Amazon Prime you get HD by default which will scale down to SD if your connection can't handle it..
