kharris: Watching the NRL tonight and the feed seems to pause every 10 minutes or so. I have to go back to the menu and restart the program. Has anyone else been having similar issues?

I had this too ATV 4K connected via Ethernet to router. Spark 100/20 fibre.

Just watched the ABs 1st half on chromecast ultra with SSN and it was noticably annoying.

Changed to the inbuilt SSN app on my Samsung 2019 TV, and it was great.

Just ordered a Nvidia Shield too, so I'll see if the Android TV app is just as good in a few days.

EDIT- clarification: Frame rate was annoying

Maybe you need to change your chrome cast to 50Hz?

Just forced it to 50hz and will see how it goes - thanks.

Will also try Kayo Sports and see how that goes - Anyone here from AU that wouldn't mind receiving my initial sign up text to your AU number? :)

That’s good. Makes sense it would be jerky at 60Hz. I don’t have a chromecast but I’ve heard this before.

Cheers @kharris

I signed up to Kayo Sports and wow, it is amazing! Watched F1 and some american college football last night and it was beautiful - couldn't fault it at all!

I love the additional extras like watch from start or watch from live if your late to a game, or the stats tab that are included in the app while watching! Channel/content switching was as fast as VTV. Rewind and fast forward were even faster!

Well I was without sky for Bathurst for the 1st time in many years so I took a 7 day trail of SSN. Running through my Apple TV on 200/20 Fibre. Watched the All Blacks, Bathurst and NRL finals, haven't used any of the other features apart from live tv. Tested it on my phone and that was fine too. After two days the only thing that really bugs me is that sometimes on the guide it reopens back in the past (perhaps the last time I opened it) rather than in real time where I'd like to see it.

I noticed as well Sky currently have a limited time deal on SSN 12 months for $299.99. Thats only $5.75 a week or $24.90 a month. Incredibly cheap imho

PQ was fine, I wouldn't say it was 100% perfect as I did get a couple of millisecond screen blotchs on two ads between halves on the ABs game. Bathurst was perfect (as good as sky satellite I have had previously) For the money and convenience I would definitely look at subbing.

Must add my ATV is hardwired not wifi, as I use it for Infuse primarily and data throughput is miles better than wifi on the ATV

I've been watching super rugby Aoteoroa and the AB's games on SSN from an i5 NUC on ethernet on 100/100 Fibre and I find it as close to flawless as I think you could come.  Very occasionally I see compression artefacts and I think that's an encoding issue. Basically when you get a closeup of an AB after scoring a try where you have a person in the middle and lots of grass it seems to get confused about what to do with all the green in on the fly encoding so can look a like blocky. Otherwise I find the frame rate etc amazing - I watch on a 65" TV at 1080p.

My one and only complaint is if I want to watch a rugby match from the start and we're 20 - 30 minutes in for example you can go to the beginning of the program on the guide and say watch and it always joins it live. You can then go back but you have to be very careful not to see the score or it can ruin it a little. Pretty sure even if the game was hours ago and another game is on you scroll back, click on the actual item but it just goes to live on that channel. Needs to be an easy way to pick a point on the timeline and start watching there.

If someone can enlighten me on where I'm being stupid please do - I know I'm a creature of habit and using it once or twice a week I haven't gone back and experimented and I'm always in a hurry at the time.

I consider it good value at the $25 price you can get it for a year as I tend to watch a minimum of 4 good rugby matches during a lot of the season and often 6 - 8 during the international season (I really only watch Canterbury or Allblack matches). Even the $40 casual rate I can deal with. Not sure if the $25 is still a special while covid is about and international sports are greatly reduced - We'll see what happens down the track.

I took a 1 week trial to watch the ABs match over the weekend.  All went very smoothly running on the TV app and did what it should.   The only comparator for me is Spark's sport app during the RWC, which I found to be a poor experience.

I did the same. Im rural and on a capped wireless plan and although the quality was excellent (AppleTV4 on ethernet) after reviewing data usage it was using over 4Gb/hr which unfortunately is unsustainable.

Unfortunately, there is no way to reduce the stream quality (eg to 720p) using the AppleTV - Sky Sport Now App

The obvious option is to airplay via a computer/laptop where it is accessible but not interested in that as it ties up the device as well.

I am really concerned the upcoming cricket season as its predominantly online.

From the feedback posted, it's looking like Apple TV is quite solid, whereas Chromecast is where you have frame rate issues etc.

It would be interesting if the people without problems running on Apple TV, instead try a chromecast and see what happens?

Also, NZ cricket this season is only on Spark Sport right?
